Hi,

I was just wondering if 1. there are any soundbanks for either the Pro 53 OR the Messiah that emulate John Carpenter's soundtrack material, (Halloween, The Thing, Halloween 3, etc.). If not...can anyone steer me in the right direction as to making some of my own presets with either of these VSTi's? I can hear a lot of brass in the sound, but there are other characteristics I'm not getting!

I think he used mainly the Prophet 5 on Halloween. I know he used a lot of Arp synths also.

I am not aware of such banks but he used a lot of Prophet-5 and maybe some Oberheim too. I think you should get close by getting some 80s sounds, like synth brasses and such.. Probably factory banks come with some of such sounds. Btw. great music and cool question!

I don't know of any such soundbanks either (sorry), but for a list of equipment used on Halloween 3 check the bottom of this page @ his official homepage. Some reminissing from the synth-programming-fellow-composing guy there too. Among other things a Moog Vocoder was used, so replicating every kind of sound used will probably be a bit of a challenge...

"The Thing" was scored by Ennio Morricone with a just few tracks by John Carpenter and his regular eighties partner Alan Howarth, so most of that's a bit of a different story.
