Now you're just babbling. I'll repeat, since it seems hard for you. If something is described as a 'christmas gift' dont expect it to be available forever; the description implies a short-term offer. That's the only assertion I made. And no analogy came with it.

Anything else you want to conjure out of that, it comes from your own imagination, so you might as well make your cryptic and incoherent comments to yourself, not me. K'thx, bye.
Actually, you argued that Christmas is temporary and thus, the offer. The description doesn't imply a short term offer, given that gifts are usually permanent. Which is probably why you made a snide remark about "Christmas" and not "gift".

Plus the fact that NI "gifts" from earlier years weren't yanked after a few months...

I was actually agreeing with you (in my own muddled way ;))

No, I wouldn't expect a Christmas gift to be available forever, I think assuming a Christmas promotion will be open permanently is rather strange. *But* I do think in this day and age, and especially with a company as large as NI that the installer should be available 'forever' to those who registered during the promotion.

Erm, no. Stating an irrefutable fact isnt arguing something. Christmas is a transient event, and doesn't last forever.
The description doesn't imply a short term offer, given that gifts are usually permanent.
The description does imply a short term offer, given that the deliberate introduction of the word 'Christmas' as a modifier for the word 'gift' is clearly intended to impart some extra information, and that extra information pertains to the longevity of the availability of the gift.

But go on, feel free to make a case that the easter bunny is the all-year-round-bunny, and that you can collect your halloween candy all year round.

But lo; a short-term offer is what it was. That which Im saying was implied, turned out to be the case.

Are you seriously trying to argue that they didnt mean it wouldn't only be available temporarily, after its been proven that it was only available temporarily? Because that's amusing.
Which is probably why you made a snide remark about "Christmas" and not "gift".
Probably not, no.

Im pretty sure there were others that were short-term availability. A Kore Christmas pack springs to mind. At least NI dont prevent you gettin stuff you've paid for, unlike some companies.

edit : oops I forgot about stuff they've discontinued. So yeah, NI do do that too. Backup your downloads three diferent ways kids. In case they nuke the site from orbit, its the only way to be sure.

The problem is that it is NI - try getting installers for products that have been paid for (such as Kore Sound Packs) - they just don't do it.

Unfair - yes, but just the way NI work.

You guys discussing endlessly what is or is not a 'gift', whyterabbit and patton should go back to work, or do something worthwhile. ;)

Simonden, pm sent!

I'm late to the game here, but I remember getting the email from NI and it was during the hectic, as usual Holidays and tbh, I totally spaced and figured I'd get to it later. I guess I'm screwed eh?

So the actual answer, which is fact and not opinion, is that a "gift" given has no expiration date. For example, if I give you a gift card for Christmas, it doesn't turn into a pumpkin at some point if you don't use it during the Christmas season. If my mom got me a gift that was too big to ship and I had to wait to get back to NJ to pick it up, she wouldn't say, "sorry, I returned it because it's no longer Christmas."

If your mom would do something like this, it means she doesn't love you.

So regardless of what your opinion is, the correct thing for NI to do is just put the download link in your list of owned products and be done with it.

Ask yourself the question: what would it hurt if they did that?

In the end, I don't miss what I never had, and I sure have a lot of cool tools, but it seems odd to me that an offer like this would just dry up and I don't remember

Next time someone gives me a gift during a transient event, I'll be sure to ask them about the longevity of the gift.

The fact that other NI "offers" weren't yanked shortly after the transient event suggests that something is different this time. Which is probably why reasonable people are asking a reasonable question.

Not sure I agree with this though.

Basically NI gave a gift - they didn't take it back. Someone 'lost' the gift (after they received it) and NI are not giving them the gift a second time.
