Hi Hibidy! You prolly remember me for being a HUGE Alloy fan. It's my favorite and most-used plug.

There's so many great things about it I wouldn't know where to start, but you asked about issues, so here's a few.

The biggest issue I have is the limiter. I find it gives me a lot of distortion - I tend not to use it anymore because the compression is great and I use Ozone for final limiting if I need it. It sounds like clipping to me. I might be doing something wrong and I'll let you know if I figure out what.

I also think the exciters in Ozone are much better. Alloys are basically adding distortion and I rarely want to do that meself. You might though.

The transient shaper is great as long as you don't push it too hard, then you get weird results.

So for me the biggest problem is the limiter. Remember of course everything is zero-latency, and I think that must have something to do with it. Or maybe I'm all wet, I wish it just sounded better to me.

I love the EQ, dynamics and transient modules and use them a lot.

Never really tried the de-esser.

So I too have hoped they'd issue an update with limiter and exciter fixes.

Thanks!

Yeah, the limiter is there for when I'm getting peaks that I don't feel like dealing with currently  I don't really like limiting if I can help it.

Ok, I've demoed, demoed, demoed, and demoed so mo' and I'm ready to pull the trigger. A quick check in the market place though first :hihi:

Now that I think of it, I did use the limiter again recently, but I was very conservative with it.

;)

What I notice at times is wanting particularly electro drums a bit hotter while getting things together. This is easy with alloy whereas before I had to add a limiter (I really don't have anything very good anyways and alloy is zero latency)

yeah, I like ozone but I still don't do too much with the limiting other than a tad oomph and kill the peaks (no no, waves don't look like a giant solid BLOCK  )

Alloy is a fantastic and straightforward channel strip, without a doubt.

The only thing I don't like from Alloy is the sidechain.... you need a VST3 host to use it.

hibidy, What other plugins, do you have? If you have T racks, Aloy may be redundant.Aloy vst 3 doesn't work in cubase. I have to use vst2.4.Aloy 1.1
I get some unwanted distortion with the compression sometimes.

Post

@vst 3: I use reaper so that isn't a deal, I don't use sidechaining.

Unwanted distortion? Hmmmm, that is twice I've heard the distortion thing. I'm not hearing it but my ears are not super great. I generally use comp on kick/snare but pretty moderately.

for better or worse, it's mine

thanks for your help!

Congrats, Aloy is good plugin. The distortion may be due to my over zealus use.
Two separate comps that you can run in series or parallel. Pretty cool!!

I am simply waiting for FabFilter to give it an attempt at some competition!

That will be the day I am smiling!

I find the compression to be excellent. I just feel that the limiter distorts sooner than it should, but I'm not an expert by any means!
