i think so... at least the way the touchscreen works with other apps seems like it should... i'll verify tonight (have a touchscreen desktop at home... fun for the kids at least). however, iirc the x/y pads are kind of small compared to the screen real-estate, guess no smaller than alchemy mobile would be on an ipod touch though. |

I'm within inches of getting an Android tablet.. if I do, then that TouchDAW thing would be my first app purchase! But I'm not sure I want to fork the dollars over yet.. argh.. blech..
Indecision sucks! I should upgrade from Alchemy Player to full first, really. ---- My bloggity blog: http://the-serpents-fang.blogspot.com/ Red Room Authors Page: http://redroom.com/member/edward-averill Tracktion 4 and proud of it! GO T4! |

There are many options for iOS. Touch OSC is the most well known, it can now communicate using OSC or MIDI CC with any host or plugin - although it may require a network MIDI connection is active. The recently released Lemur is incredibly powerful, but it's not nearly as cheap.
Konkreet Performer is excellent if you want something a little more abstract, but it's not designed as a DAW controller. @woolyloach - whether it's Android or iOS, I do think these touch devices are the way forward. A larger screen is a must for more general music apps, but for basic remix pad control the smaller screens are fine. Dedicated devices like the Korg Kaoss pads are cool but too limited today, and I find the XY pads built in to keyboards are not nearly as nice to use. The the apps available for iOS, and those that will eventually make their way to Android, are just too flexible to pass up. The QuNeo also looks like an excellent solution, but it's not really a proven yet. I'm sure it will be excellent, and I'll probably pick one up myself if they're not too expensive. Peace, Andy. |

i should mention that i only have an iphone No worries! What OS / host do you want to control? Touch OSC is great, works fine on the smaller screen but there might be better solutions ... Peace, Andy. |

Not sure about Orion controllers but Live is well covered.
This one is designed for use with TouchOSC and Live, seems to be open source: http://livecontrol.q3f.org/ Lemur Kapture Pad: http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/kapture-pad/id419294268?mt=8 Lemur Griid Pro: http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/griid-pro/id384300805?mt=8 Peace, Andy. |

It looks like the best get-it-now option is going to be an Android tablet, TouchDAW, and the rtpMIDI driver. Otherwise it's a basic knob box, which is the cheaper but not-so-nice option. Mac and cheese for a week, or eat well and twiddle fiddly knobs? *edit* I'm going to wait and see how the QuNeo works out. Ponying up a ton of money for an Android tablet JUST to do control surface stuff seems a little extreme. ---- My bloggity blog: http://the-serpents-fang.blogspot.com/ Red Room Authors Page: http://redroom.com/member/edward-averill Tracktion 4 and proud of it! FWIW, I'm going to grab a used nanoKONTROL for now so I can at least play with the XY pads while waiting for the QuNeo verdict. ---- My bloggity blog: http://the-serpents-fang.blogspot.com/ Red Room Authors Page: http://redroom.com/member/edward-averill Tracktion 4 and proud of it! GO T4! |

why used? they are only $39 new... dunno how much you can save by going used, and you'd have to take whatever abuse the previous owner gave it. |

Got it from a neighbor for $5. I'm out of USB ports, though. Time for a powered hub! ---- My bloggity blog: http://the-serpents-fang.blogspot.com/ Red Room Authors Page: http://redroom.com/member/edward-averill Tracktion 4 and proud of it! GO T4! |

I know it isn't perfect, but you can use a touchpad on a laptop. Double-click and drag will manipulate the x-y control. I would also like to have a dedicate x-y controller, but until I do, the touchpad works. ---- This space has been unintentionally left blank. |
