I've been x64 for awhile, and I really do miss ST2.5 and the related instruments. [I also miss CSR and hope that it gets the x64 treatment as well. I have several very expensive reverbs that sound great, but there's a lush feel to the CSR Hall that I just can't seem to reproduce elsewhere.]

I think I own everything that SR has made for ST (as well as their other libraries for Kontakt and IP), but the libraries I really miss are the ST groove libraries (which I own in several formats in addition to ST2.5). These are really the hidden jewels of ST IMHO. Covering a variety of styles, they could be layered, synced, effected and triggered with ease. I would get lost in the possibilities for hours at a time.

Some of these were in the factory library, but there's also a disc or two of additional material available that is really useful raw material.

Glad to hear ST3 is on the way. Please nudge them about CSR as well. [And then remind them that you mean the .vst, not an iOS app. Very Happy ]

Cheers

I think for formats like that the best thing to do is translate into them, import etc. and then use the features to tweak. The Emulator stuff was always good. I still have a hardware Emulator although I don't use it.

Additional formats we're looking at doing support for are Logic EXS24 - revving that up again because it's so popular. Alchemy and SFZ - also popular and very cool. Possibly Halion and Mach 5 but it depends on the demand. Also Ableton Live Sampler and DirectWave for FL Studio are possibilities too but again it depends on the demand. We'll experiment a little with a few things perhaps. Structure for ProTools is another contender although it can import. The idea is to be sure that people that use these popular DAWS have some great sounds with particular characteristics (some of which are rare) to conveniently use in their system... not that a virtual instrument plug-in isn't incredibly convenient too but we're a sound developer first and foremost. So perhaps supporting these formats will be helpful to musicians, composers, producers etc. I deal with these people on a regular basis and get asked questions like "Can I load that Mellotron sound into my EXS?" and whenever I have to say "Well no but you can..." I think to myself "Why no?" I'd like to be able to say YES to the most popular questions I get asked about sounds.

Please don't forget "presence" in Studio one Prayer

I almost forgot. If SR started building Alchemy libraries, I think that would be awesome. Thumbs Up!

Is the focus of Sampletank going to be workstation type sounds still , or are they going for the big gusto type patches in ST3?

I'm hoping they remain a very good rompler, just much more current sounds, and workflow,64 bit.Something to compete with XS,Fantoms etc.. It's definitely possible.
The main thing I want is a bigger gui,better browser,faster loading multi's

It's a rompler/workstation. Always has been and always should be IMO. But, some of the sound support we're doing for it will be more focused on deluxe instruments. Nothing too gratuitous such as zillion gigabyte pianos or anything but more detailed sampling of certain instruments will be a nice add on thing from us. In fact, we're even going to release those types of libraries very soon in multi-format and include SampleTank 2.5 in that list. But when ST3 comes out you'll be able to do more with expression, processing and certain other things that can't be mentioned yet. Figure that if you love ST2.5 you'll love ST3 even more because it builds off of it... sort of like the drastic different between SampleTank 1 for those that remember to SampleTank 2. This is a big leap without losing what we've come to like about working with this type of multitimbral "rompler".

Thanks Squids,On the detailed sampling thing you mention,I can appreciate this even more as a workstation lover, you know it's funny, how certain workstations, namely the XS,and Fantom G can only pack say less then 400-500 mb's,but blow alot of other software romplers out of the water, and they are dealing with compression from hell and still find ways to make it sound better. And to the detailed sampling, MUCH respect I feel like alot of that is already being done with st2 and your libraries,so I'm eager to hear a demo or two,of st3.hopefully more current sounding stuff is in there, which I'd be happy, even if the browser was bigger,64 bit.I think ST is already pretty great too.

Also glad to hear it's main usage will still be looked at as a rompler,Lord knows we need stuff like this in the software realm.Quick question for you, do you know if IK plans on adding anything else as far as the time-stretching capabilities,I thought their stretch is still pretty nice, especially in mono/legato,though I'd love for them to attack the poly/legato,like rolands variphrase, and perhaps a more refined or sample importing?

Can't say too much more about it until the right time but I can say that I agree STRETCH is already great even in ST2.5 and a lot of people just don't know about it.

I will say that the focus of ST3 is not on importing other libraries. Just as with ST2 and will probably be even more the case with 3, the best sounds for it will be the ones that are proprietary to ST with patches taking advantage of its unique sounding filters, processing etc. But I believe you will be able to import anyway and of course there will be new sounds in addition to the many many legacy sounds...

speaking of which there's a new Group Buy going on now for Total Workstation with free additional Xpansion Tank libraries worth checking out for anyone who doesn't have these:

Do you happen to know whether the complete existing sound library of SampleTank 2XL will be included with ST3?

One thing I have never purchased was the 2XL library upgrade which doubled the number of the original sounds. I have been wondering for years what I might be missing in that upgrade. At some point that sound set disappeared from eSoundz, and the last time I looked I couldn't buy it on IK Multimedia without making a special arrangement. It would have been nice to be able to spend some of my evaporating Jam Pointz on it, but that was in 2010, and I believed the ST3 was about to be released so I decided to wait.

Obviously I don't want to buy it as a separate item now if it is all going to be included with ST3. Are there some cool pianos and stuff that I've been missing by not having that set? Probably.

I am a little concerned about how I am going to manage old ST2.5 libraries with the new ST3 library and still have ST find everything when I open up old projects without having a bunch of duplicated instruments and library folders. Hopefully IK is addressing this effectively.
