It's not a matter of like it or not. In 70 pages the attempts to put down Saurus in every way has been ridiculous and unfair. Just my opinion (can I express my opinion? Very Happy)

(end of the polemic on my side, I feel I'm only continuing to feed the...)

Hehe, yes my opinion is the same.

I just knew that tone2 synth gonna be criticized on KvR for whatever reason. it's like "kvr community" (whatever it is) don't like tone2.

Kvr community loves two synths mainly:
- Diva
- Alchemy

If some newbie asks about synth for:
a) pads
the answer is: diva, alchemy
b) leads
the answer is: diva, alchemy
c) chiptune
the answer is: diva, alchemy
d) deadmau 5 pluck:
the answer is: alchemy Very Happy , diva
e) avicii piano sound:
the answer is: diva, alchemy
f) sine wave
the answer is: diva (yea, cpu wise Wink ), alchemy (another one perfectly suited for needs)
g) (almost forgot) skrillex dubstepzor bass
the answer is: alchemy and diva

Oh, I forgot. Third one is Zebra Very Happy

Sometimes it's really funny Smile

Meffy should made a sticky topic named: "how to make a sound". And then answer: use Diva, Alchemy, Zebra. Use it for everything.

HiHi

ps. I hope that some people have deep sense of humour but quite often it's really like this on kvr. whatever the question is - there are some people who have universal answer: use Diva / Alchemy / Zebra. HiHi

You forgot Omnisphere Razz Laughing

Anyway, unfortunately Tone2 seem to have to an extent invited such comparisons by their unfortunate choice of a name for this synth, and their also unfortunate decision to directly refer to u-he synths in their advertising. It probably would have been wiser and endeared more people to them if they had chosen to be less adversarial in their marketing.

And Sylenth1 Laughing

And Synthix and PolyKB Very Happy

What else do you need? Shrug

Synthmaster, Synth Squad, Twin 2, Imposcar, Trillian, Tassman, String Studio, Surge, Blue, Predator, FM8, Massive and Bazille Razz

Need or want? Wink

Now time for some Saurus bashing! *glee*

The asio driver for my vrm box doesn't work, any else having problems? Ok, my Tone2 bashing skills need work. HiHi

Now what I'd really like to hear are some ElectraX - Saurus comparisons. Just to hear whether all that hard work of analysing tons of analogue equipment made a difference in the sound.

If you're not using the more advanced features of ElectraX like multi-layers, sample import and vocoder stuff, it will pretty impossible to tell the difference. I think the idea is more about workflow. Saurus seems like a streamlined version focused on the VA aspect. ElectraX has the dual filters and custom wavetables and other things. But soundwise it would be a wild guess knowing which is which for similar sounds.

The Saurus filter is much different than what you have in ElectraX, at least when comparing the classic LowPass 24db mode. It is easy to test. Smile I much prefer the Saurus filter ( I think I have already mentioned this in this thread somewhere).

I just had a listen to the sawtooth waves in both synths. The Saurus wave is different to both standard sawtooth waves in ElectraX, which is more 'dry' for a lack of a better word, and extremely close, if not identical to that of the SH2. In ElectraX itself there is also a difference between the sawtooth waves. The Tr/Saw option is brighter than the Sine/Saw option which has a steeper HP rolloff and a little bit of bass boost (just a touch but it is audible). It's best to test these in the mid to lower octaves.

I just installed the demo of ElectraX and did some comparisons. They really are quite different, like you pointed out. I also prefer the Saurus filter; the ElectraX ones sound like they're the standard Tone2 offerings, probably the same ones found in Filterbank3 and Gladiator.

Well, that should lay to rest my sneaking suspicion that Saurus is just a cut-down ElectraX synth.

That other filter sweep I posted is Saurus:

It actually has a similar growl to that Sh2 as the cutoff sweeps down.

Yes, but the SH-2 doesn't have the aliasing bit going up at the beginning. I was wondering how you actually did that Wink

True. There is aliasing on high resonance (in the LP24dB mode) It pops in if the resonance value is set to about 61 (and higher) filter key follow at 50Hz (min value), cutoff at zero, filter env at max.

Yeah, it really isn't. Glad you could hear those differences too, since there were voices in this thread which stated that Saurus is no different to other Tone2 synths, but my ears tell me that it is different.

I have just done a quick comparison with Gladiator, and again the sawtooth is different. In Gladiator it is more 'hi-fi' with more bass and highs. The filter is more difficult to compare due to different modes (no 24db for example). But I did a rough test of the 12dB and it responds differently to the one in Saurus. So all in all, there are differences.

M uch beefier than the first one. My ears say this sounds better ("Cleaner") than the first, the resonance is wobbling in the first example, while this stays steady in the high parts but towards the ends goes more wobbly.

What's the difference in settings??

Hi Dalor,
It appears that you have missed what has transcribed with these clips?

Basically, the first clip is that of Roland SH2, a real vintage analog synth. The second is Saurus. It looks like you prefer the sound of Saurus over the sound of Roland SH2 (in this particular example).
