Kvr community loves two synths mainly: - Diva - Alchemy If some newbie asks about synth for: a) pads the answer is: diva, alchemy b) leads the answer is: diva, alchemy c) chiptune the answer is: diva, alchemy d) deadmau 5 pluck: the answer is: alchemy , diva
e) avicii piano sound: the answer is: diva, alchemy f) sine wave the answer is: diva (yea, cpu wise ), alchemy (another one perfectly suited for needs)
g) (almost forgot) skrillex dubstepzor bass the answer is: alchemy and diva Oh, I forgot. Third one is Zebra
Sometimes it's really funny 
Meffy should made a sticky topic named: "how to make a sound". And then answer: use Diva, Alchemy, Zebra. Use it for everything.
ps. I hope that some people have deep sense of humour but quite often it's really like this on kvr. whatever the question is - there are some people who have universal answer: use Diva / Alchemy / Zebra. You forgot Omnisphere 
Anyway, unfortunately Tone2 seem to have to an extent invited such comparisons by their unfortunate choice of a name for this synth, and their also unfortunate decision to directly refer to u-he synths in their advertising. It probably would have been wiser and endeared more people to them if they had chosen to be less adversarial in their marketing. And Sylenth1 And Synthix and PolyKB What else do you need?  Synthmaster, Synth Squad, Twin 2, Imposcar, Trillian, Tassman, String Studio, Surge, Blue, Predator, FM8, Massive and Bazille Need or want?

Now what I'd really like to hear are some ElectraX - Saurus comparisons. Just to hear whether all that hard work of analysing tons of analogue equipment made a difference in the sound. |

If you're not using the more advanced features of ElectraX like multi-layers, sample import and vocoder stuff, it will pretty impossible to tell the difference. I think the idea is more about workflow. Saurus seems like a streamlined version focused on the VA aspect. ElectraX has the dual filters and custom wavetables and other things. But soundwise it would be a wild guess knowing which is which for similar sounds. ---- This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. There is a 255 character limit. The Saurus filter is much different than what you have in ElectraX, at least when comparing the classic LowPass 24db mode. It is easy to test. I much prefer the Saurus filter ( I think I have already mentioned this in this thread somewhere).
I just had a listen to the sawtooth waves in both synths. The Saurus wave is different to both standard sawtooth waves in ElectraX, which is more 'dry' for a lack of a better word, and extremely close, if not identical to that of the SH2. In ElectraX itself there is also a difference between the sawtooth waves. The Tr/Saw option is brighter than the Sine/Saw option which has a steeper HP rolloff and a little bit of bass boost (just a touch but it is audible). It's best to test these in the mid to lower octaves. |

Glad you could hear those differences too, since there were voices in this thread which stated that Saurus is no different to other Tone2 synths, but my ears tell me that it is different. I have just done a quick comparison with Gladiator, and again the sawtooth is different. In Gladiator it is more 'hi-fi' with more bass and highs. The filter is more difficult to compare due to different modes (no 24db for example). But I did a rough test of the 12dB and it responds differently to the one in Saurus. So all in all, there are differences. |

It looks like you prefer the sound of Saurus over the sound of Roland SH2 (in this particular example). |
