Ok, finally... Grasso "alpha" version just sent out
I'm really curious about the feelings. Lots of fun developing it here. It is a weird concept, maybe. It changed a lot from the original concept you see in the first preview. Selecting the features and keeping it simple and coherent was very hard. Mainly because I wanted it to have a special identity, not just another one. It had to be completely different from the compressors in Bus, from GTS-39 and so on. No doubles, no useless marketing things. Tube models, weird threshold-less and trigger-less dynamic control (no "shaper" sound), even more weird pre and post saturation dynamics related to attack or to decay, a modeling for the power supply ("sag"?). We'll see if testers will like it as much as I do It slowed everything a bit because some general concepts and results were too good and useful not to include them in other updates. E.g.: the new Bus v.2 opto compressor, the new Roundtone v.3 tape modes, a new Presence v.2 with some new more blatant algorithms, etc. All benefit from this one And a new guitar amplifier. Does anybody like N. Young sound? "Spaghetti" is the new one... but it is still a secret... Last edited by quintosardo on Tue Apr 03, 2012 1:35 am; edited 2 times in total |

... and here is a tour with Grasso on drums.
- dry - some saturation - pre-drive EQ - controlling attack and snap - making it dry and then very long - adding all kinds of resonances, from subtle to strong - changing dynamic modes, from attack to decay - reducing available power - etc... - dry Grasso_Drums_Tour |

I see, its sort of like a transient designer? ---- Aiynzahev-sounds Resonance Sound Sound Designer - Soundsets for Massive, LuSH, DIVA, DUNE, Sylenth and others |

Wouldn't it make me "grasso" if I'd use it to much?? |

It is a saturator with dynamic control, different from a transient designer somehow because it doesn't do triggering, so it sounds very smooth. More, some functionsbare linked to peak shape, like the dynamic eq, so it has some special control on sound.
Everything is circuit modeled, including the power supply (with an available power control), trying to make it sound organic as a whole instead of a compressor (which it isn't) plus a saturator. Look at the videos for some examples! |

transient designers and gates have their place, and grasso fills another hole. i wouldn't use it for the tube saturation alone since there are many plugs doing that already, but it looks great to tweak your track to work with other parts of your mix better - i think that's what i'll use it most for after viewing the vids.
so yea, like a trans designer if you're like me and use it only to fit into the mix |

Whoa, just a few minutes of playing with this and I can already tell Imma gonna like it It can be driven straight into distortion and then some. But where I found it immediately awesome was on snare and kick. It is like a Transient Controller on steroids. If you cannot make something transient heavy stick out with this then I believe you're helpless. Initially the plug looks like it part pre-amp, part EQ, and part transient designer all rolled into one highly configurable and slick plug-in. This is going to be fun to really start experimenting with! ---- nox ad umbras lucem misit. |
