Zebra2.5.2 crashes when saving a preset within VE Pro 5

Dear Urs,

I purchased Zebra2.5.2 a few days ago and unfortunately when I save a preset within Zebra2, it and VE Pro 5 (latest vers) crash - everytime. I am on Windows 7 Pro 64bit. When VE Pro 5 hosts Zebra by itself, I can save presets without any problems - but when I add some more VSTs like Kontakt 4 / Play or some VI Pro 2s, that's when Zebra2 and VE Pro start to crash.

Just to add, I've never had problems with VE Pro 5 hosting muliple VSTs. Can you please help as this is stopping us from using Zebra and we'd like to use it as soon as possible. Help

sounds like the common file permissions problem to me... where's Zebra2.data located exactly?

Hi Urs,

On the installation. I created a folder in Program files/common files/Zebra2, and then installed the 64bit plugins there... and for the data, I created a folder on my other internal SATA drive called Zebra2 and installed the data in there.

Dear Urs,

I have read the Windows 7 Permissions post and I followed those instructions. Installed Zebra 64bit plug into Program Files/common files/Zebra2, then created folder in my documents and installed data to there. Still have the crash when saving preset. Even moved the plug-in folder from common files to my documents and unfortunately we're still getting the crash when saving a Zebra2 preset within the latest VE Pro 5.

We have checked the folders permissions within my documents and "allow" has all the ticks.

To mention we are getting this problem on the 4 Windows 7 Pro 64bit PCs to eliminate any particular machine.

Any timely information on what we should do here to get Zebra working would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, obviously, some thing mangles write permissions.

I'd suggest to

1. delete all Zebra2.dll or Zebra2.data in any Vstplugins directory

2. download Zebra2 preinstalled

http://www.u-he.com/downloads/Zebra/Zebra252pre32.zip
http://www.u-he.com/downloads/Zebra/Zebra252pre32.zip

3. extract the archive into C:\Users\You\Documents\u-he

4. if possible, add that location to Vstdirectories

(if 4 isn't possible then craete a shortcut to "Zebra2.data", move "Zebra2.dll" and "Zebra2.data Shortcut" into Vstplugins and rename "Zebra2.data Shortcut" into "Zebra2.data")

Also are you on the latest update of VE Pro?

Cheers,

Wink Urs

Btw. ticking "allow" to on does not seem to impress Windows UAC at all.

If your machine is not connected to the internet you can try to switch UAC off.

We have just tried the Zebra2 preinstalled download link you sent. But the zebra2 plugin is now not showing in VE Pro 5. We are in 64bit are these Zebra2 plugins 64bit??

There's two download links in my above post. One's 64 bit and one's 32 bit...

64 bit Zebra is called Zebra2(x64).dll

I don't know if we're missing something here, but we've downloaded the two links and they both appear to be 32bit. The two links are titled exactly the same?

Does that correlate at your end?? Crying or Very sad

Okay, I've just installed Zebra 64bit link that was sent as per instructions. The download zip was extracted to C:\Users\You\Documents\u-he. I then created a shortcut to "Zebra2.data", then moving "Zebra2(x64).dll" and "Zebra2.data Shortcut" into program files/common files/zebra2 and renamed "Zebra2.data Shortcut" into "Zebra2.data").

The crash is still happening upon attemping to save a preset within Zebra2 on VE Pro 5. We are using the latest VE Pro 5. We have also tried this again on 3 PCs just to make sure the same thing happens. We also switched off UAC, but no difference. I'd like to mention again, that when we just have Zebra2 by itself in VE Pro 5 we don't get a crash when saving a preset - but of course we always use VE Pro to host a handful of VSTs and VI Pro 2s and it doesn't seem to matter what VSTs or VI Pro 2s we host, just the fact that they are there Zebra2 crashes only upon saving a preset.

We can have Zebra2 running in VE Pro 5 for many hours without a crash, but the second we try to save a preset it crashes alongside VE Pro. I'd like to also mention again that we have never had problems with VE Pro hosting multiple VSTs etc.

Shocked

Bizarr stuff then.

Can you pinpoint it to any specific VST that needs to be open to reproduce the problem?

I can only imagine that it's our little preset save dialog that collides with whatever things those other VSTs do

Do you actually get the preset save dialog, and can you press "OK" on it?

Ok, we have some more tricks up our sleeves. We can send you a special build of Zebra that can log things before and after saving a preset.

I'd need you to contact us directly though, under support@u-he.com

Yes it's definately strange stuff. This is why we've gone through the process on more than one PC. We thought as first it may have been a particular machine, but that doesn't seem so.

It doesn't seem to matter what VST's or VI Pros are being hosted at the same time as Zebra. On one of the machines which only hosts multiple VI Pro 2s within VE Pro 5 (no VSTs) that too has the crashing problem when we save a Zebra 2 preset.

Is it perhaps something to do with when VE Pro starts to get busy when hosting multiple things (whatever they are) that's when Zebra2 crashes?? We say this because we have noticed through testing, if we only have perhaps 1 instance and around 8 channels of various VSTs, VI Pros etc and Zebra2, then we don't get a crash - but when VE Pro is hosting muliple instances, say 3 with 12 to 16 channels within each instance, then Zebra2 crashes. Just to say there is ample CPU and ram running VE Pro.

When we try to save a Zebra2 preset, we do get the preset save dialog box, and can you press "OK" and around 2 seconds after that it crashes.

Also would it be helpful for us to send a crash log (we are not sure how to do that - but if you could please advise). Rolling Eyes
