Funny thing is is that here, I get only one every couple of weeks, so when I see people like you getting them all over I am going...eh? What gives? Confused

Well I did get 2 letters last week within 15 minutes, I did not make this up, there would be no reason for lying here to prove some sort of point I'm trying to make. However, back to music, I'm out of here...

Just imagine if they posted samples as well...what would that be like?

There were quite a few on some other threads that had the same thing going on...I'm just saying that it is kind of funny that some would get clobbered with those dang things and others never seem to get any...

I'm back and more, uh... gruntled? I'm sorry if I stepped on any non-IcKy toes. Another reason I bought CSR was as an upgrade gamble. I hope it pays off.

I was doing some more archive reading here and they seem to have been promising new features in CSR for quite some time. You know, like: "I wish we could say more about the game-changing nuclear insanity we've got coming up for that," etc. We'll see if anything ever happens.

Since this is still a particular comparison thread, lets look at Valhalla: adding many whole new algorithms and features on a pretty regular basis. I know it's completely unfair to compare a mighty company to a one man show. But in this case, who's it unfair to?

I hope it's okay to ask this again: anyone have the Sounds Devine CSR presets?

Edit - a kind soul has helped out.

Reluctant to keep bumping this thread...BUT....wouldn't mind the free Soundsdevine CSR presets. I bought Nitro presets off him way back in the day, and he has a good set of ears! Anyone have them? Is it OK to share?

Yes, I sometimes wish I could write about reverbs for a living. Those are interesting reviews. The CSR one from 2007 is too old to have any comparison to the Lexicon PCM Native Bundle, but the Valhalla review mentions it with a positive comparison. I wonder where these professional reverb reviewers got the idea that CSR was more than four lightened models of algorithms from the Lexicon PCM91?

They certainly drop some of the hall of fame names including Lexicon, Quantec and AMS. One of the posters here has referred to the CSR QRS Hall or something like that multiple times. Maybe that's a preset? It's my understanding that the actual Quantec algorithm is quite unique, and I doubt Lexicon would have implemented that in the 91, nor subsequently Warp69, either directly or indirectly.

I guess there's the implication here and elsewhere that they modeled the QRS for the Room and maybe AMS for Inverse, though I think the RMX16 term is Nonlin. I suppose these professional reverb reviewers would have to be coming up with those associations on their own, or at least by way of the infamous ad copy that states CSR is "modeled after some of the most famous hardware reverb units of all time."

So, it's CSR by half a star. The VRoom GUI is now resizable and it has had more algorithms added. Maybe that would get it to 5 out of 5? I say it's time for a rematch! I suppose you could include Shimmer and UberMod to make a bundle and still be well under IK's normal price. But whoever pays full price for their products? In closing, I have noticed that CSR's marketing has been updated more than the plug-ins. That says something.

I'm republishing my review of reviews of models of models. It should be the same other than the title and credit, but since I used the computer copy function, you never know. Oh, and most important off all, it's past some of that other dreck now and I added the review links for your comparison pleasure. Even though I'm not making any money at this yet, I think I may retire, or maybe if I fire myself I can get on dole like other writers and musicians. My wrist hurts, so maybe workman's comp?

As one of the posters who mentioned the QRS/CSR Hall similarities, I don't have the hardware on hand any longer to do a straight a/b comparison, but similar instruments put thru CSR's Hall made me think immediately of the Quantec in a way no other verb does. Same with the Room module and my various Lexicons over the years, especially tighter spaces from the 224.

They may not be strict "models" in the modern sense of the word, but they do (for me) what those iconic units did in the mix, at a incredible price.

Would "inspired by" be a more accurate/acceptable marketing term? Probably. But many of the stomp boxes in Amplitube are "based on" famous pedals, and I haven't seen the same honesty issues from users on those threads. Maybe a $350 EH Memory Man for $10 helps quell any complaints! HiHi

And while Valhalla gets lots of props for its sound and affordability, I'll be honest about the GUI. It's big and ugly. Functional, yes. But I'd be loathe to put it up in front of my more brand conscious clients because of its appearance. Some may like the scandinavian/clean/graphic look, but I'm not among them. CSR is a beauty by any standard, and doesn't need apology when you open it up.

And we're talking about Valhalla's Room only, right? It seems that it's three modules/algorithms fewer than CSR right off the bat. Has this been mentioned here at all?

Finally, if you do decide to buy CSR today, buy it at eSoundz.com. You'll get epointz AND jampoints, and it gives you the crossgrade price on IK's Total Workstation 2 Group Buy (with double free Xpansion libraries at eSoundz!). So really, it would be like getting CSR and 2 Xpansions libs for FREE if you buy both. Damn!

It does say something, it says the sound is timeless. Online presentation is constantly changing, but CSR still sounds great.
