Hi All,

I'm finding that I have a need for a portable DAW. I'm using reaper for this and it works great. My UHE plugs also work great in this environment. Unfortunately, almost nothing else that I've paid for works like this.

Obviously there's the free stuff and that fills in some gaps. Which manufacturers are committed to this type of simple serial/license file for some or all of their products?

They're, mostly talking about hosts and I'm asking about plugins. There trying to compile a list of apps, in a very general musical sense.

For example, what would be a reasonably replacement for Battery?

Ah, ok - paid for plugs will be a problem due to registration/activation but free plugs should just be drop in DLLs.

Exactly, but, not all paid plugs, e.g. Uhe products work fine as do other plugs with the right protection scheme. So, that's kind of what I'm trying to get at here. The free plugins are the obvious choice, but, what I want to know is which devs, other than Uhe, support non C/R type protection schemes.

Beyond that, I'd like to try and figure out what are the best in class choices for common plugins, e.g. Battery, Kontakt.

For Battery, i'd ask over at onesmallclue, ask if Poise can be ported around like that. I can't remember offhand, I think it's a serial.

For kontakt, try Shortcircuit the free sampler. Not as powerful but good, free, and I think will be ok to port around with you.
