Which one of the Discovery synths is closest in architecture to the Nord Lead 2x?

Amazing. Many thanks Just demo both and then hurry on over to get 30 EUR off your choice The other option would be to dig my real 2x out ---- "I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms" "Oooh I dont know. The third option is to do both. The 2x works as controller for the Discovery plugin (the knobs on the 2x maps to the parameters of the plugin) making IMO more than the sum of the parts. The best of two worlds and then some. ---- At school they taught me how to be. So pure in thought and word and deed. They didn't quite succeed. |

It's a good synth no doubt but on it's own it's not that special. I'm not that interested in a NL2. It's a good synth no doubt but on it's own it's not that special. Plus the hassle of hardware, midi, audio recording instead of rendering, lack of voices etc. However i would love to have both. Awesome combo in my book. ---- At school they taught me how to be. Mushy Mushy wrote: jupiter8 wrote: Plus the hassle of hardware, midi, audio recording instead of rendering, lack of voices etc. Oh how times change I've done all that and IMO it's a pain in the neck. VSTs boom! one mouse click and they're there. The downside being that they're not hands on. Editing sounds on NL2 is so much more rewarding than on a plugin. That's why it's such an awesome combo. You get the best of two worlds. Even the fact that the Discovery doesn't sound exactly like NL2 isn't something to be bothered about. It's a plus in my book. Then you have 2 slightly different flavours of synths, what's not to like. As a sidenote the NL2 would also make a great controller for Synth1 me thinks. ---- At school they taught me how to be. I fired up my NL3 and was pleasently suprised by the clarity, richness and subtle complexity of the timbres I don't hear in my arsenal of vsti. Plus it makes an amazing controller. ---- Just face it, you have no idea how to use the software youve just bought |

For quite some time I was working with serious NL(2/2X/Rack) guys on a Synth1 NL converter. Synth1 is 99% NL2, just for the record... Try to convert some syx patches and listen. Try to do it also with Discovery. Well, most of the NL users can't tell the difference between Synth1 and NL. With Discovery, the difference is obvious.
In fact, the Synth1 works so well as soft replacement, that many of NL owners asked me to make Synth1 to NL converter! No way of course, this cannot be done because Synth1 is much more complex synth. Anyway, try Synth1, you won't regret it ---- Synth1永遠に https://sites.google.com/site/synth1vst/ Website dedicated to Mr. Ichiro Toda's Synth1 - tools, manuals, links, etc. |

I think Ichiro Today, Synth1 developer, said Discovery sound was closer to the Nord Lead.
Extracted from http://www.geocities.jp/daichi1969/softsynth/ 2003.9.20 Quote: 知らない間に、discoveryなるnordlead2クローンがリリースされますね。 時代に取り残されてます。お試し版をインストールしてみました。見た目はそっくりですね。。。 音の方もなかなかで、だいぶnordlead2に近いです。弱点は、重い事。 少なくとも自分のPC(Celeron1.4G)には重すぎます。
Translates to (thanks to Google) Quote: Between do not know, I will be released nordlead2 clone consisting of discovery. Has been behind the times. I tried to install a trial version. It looks just like it is. . . The sound is also quite, close to nordlead2 much. Weakness, it is heavy. To (Celeron1.4G) is too heavy for my PC at least. It's funny to read about how CPU heavy Discovery was 9 years ago. Almost feels like Urs with Diva right now Quote: Well, most of the NL users can't tell the difference between Synth1 and NL. With Discovery, the difference is obvious.
I'm reluctant about that. |

discovery is nice i have owned it for quite some time.
it's extremely digital though, which is great to contrast with synthix etc. But i played with a nord lead 2 only once in my entire life in a shop with headphones.. it was that long ago i hadn't lost one of my ears yet. but i distinctly remember especially a string patch i played to be warm and give me chills (foxymoron i know) discovery doesn't do this, but don't get me wrong i like discovery and there are some fantastic patches available for it, i have used it in a few tunes actually, not many synths make it into my tunes. So the question is.. Is my memory that bad? is discovery closer to the NL than i remember? ---- Upping my count for Kingston |
