In REAPER there is so much choice in pitch shift/time stretching possibilities that I never know which one I should choose...

There is SoundTouch, DiracLE, Simple Windowed, Elastique Pro, Elastique Efficient and Elastique SOLOIST, and on everyone of them you can further choose loads of different algorithms. Every one sounds more or less different, and I never know what's the best. I even don't know if there are so much choices in other DAW's, too?

Which one do you prefer, and for what kind of sound?

Use Elastique Soloist on monophonic sounds (like vocals or bass guitar or guitar solo, etc.) Elastique Pro is good all-around pitch shifting algorithm. SoundTouch is nothing special, can't find a good use for it. DiracLE is really high quality and is not quite suited for realtime pitch-shifting. Use it only when rendering stuff out. Simple windowed is more of a special effect than a pitch shifter. Use it to get tons of artifacts to make things weirder

DiracLE (best setting) has set my CPU on fire, then I've poured a bucket of water over it...I think, it's not a CPU hog, it's a CPU monster...

With the Simple Windowed I got some strange turntable-scratch-like effects, especially with higher pitches...

anyway, good to know. I was always using Elastique pro, but I will give DiracLE a try next time I need pitch shifting.

If I glue an item, which I pitch shifted, it should rub the DiracLE right into the item and I can then have a new item without the CPU load of the diracLE, couldn't I ?
