Follow up on the Caustic on Android thread:

If have Caustic rendering and accepting touch inputs on my playbook, which is the easy part. Now if I can figure out Blackberry's low-level audio system and get it generating audio without drop-outs, the hard part will be done...
Apparently the hard part is done, the app was published last week:

Haven't had much time to try it out yet, but it looks like a very good job done! Only downside is that all the samples also appear in the playbook's Music browser, but I think that's due to how that Music browser works. Oh well...

Now I just need to get my playbook repaired (only got it last Monday and the headphone output is dead) and get a PayPal account. This will be one of the few apps I'll be buying Wink

Hi, thanks for posting this. Indeed I released Caustic2 on PlayBook a few weeks ago. It's the same version as is available on Android, with a few minor tweaks specific to PB. It's a native app, not running in the Android player (those who have PBs will know what this means). Performance is great and latency is fairly low (16ms). It also supports HDMI audio output, so you don't even need working headphones to jam on your big screen/sound system BertKoor Wink

It's sad that sales haven't been better for the BlackBerry tablet as it's a great piece of hardware and you can get one for ~200$. There's also recently been a decent influx of quality apps and games these past weeks, which is a good sign.

I'll take this opportunity to mention I've also recently released a free Windows version of Caustic 2 as a desktop companion to the mobile app.

Got that issue sorted. I found out the playbook has seperate volume settings for speaker and headphone out. The latter was set to "mute" D'oh!

This morning I did a quick audio quality test with RMAA. Turns out that WAV files other than 48kHz sample rate go through an appauling sample rate conversion scheme that rolls off quickly anything above 10kHz. Still have to do a test what happens with MP3 files created with sample rate of 44kHz.

Now get a paypal account, and I'm a Caustic user. Yay!!
