Is there such a thing? Even if it can't be a configuration tool (could it?...) it should be possible to at least inspect the capabilities of hardware plugged into an iDevice, either directly or through the CCK. I'm sure XCode has code that queries hardware capabilities and formats. Could be a useful utility... |

I've only come across this as of lately, but probably it is not your choice of bells and whistles. ---- What better religion than music itself? |

Thanks, kpsy. Not complete but useful. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent for audio. |

Sure no problem.
As far as a configuration utility per se... unless Tim Cook starts taking drugs and allows such thing on iOS 9.0... I'm afraid it is not possible as apps as you know are sandboxed and I believe they can only access certain things (restricted via the SDK). And even if they could configure things they wouldn't be able to communicate to, let's say, GarageBand to send info. ---- What better religion than music itself? |

OK, but since apps like Audeonic's MIDIBridge and MIDIVision, and working solutions like Virtual MIDI, exist that examine and/or interconnect the sandboxed apps, and since Core MIDi is really a subset of Core Audio, it stands to reason that it should be possible to see and examine, if not interconnect Core Audio devices in the same way. Maybe audio tunneling like Audiobus proposes will open this up. But my intention in the OP was to find a single app that would examine and display info about Core Audio devices, which IMO shouldn't involve Tim Cook taking any drugs... |

No, you might be right that my opinion on sandboxing freedom might be a bit low when in fact the SDK might not be as closed as I thought it would be.
I was talking more about intercommunication between apps, but then again (and checking Audiobus, that you mention) I might be forgetting the fact there are apps already out there that can share data (not just in simple ways like clipboard and the like) but the "main" app controls the thing and the others have to use the "main" app SDK. How this happens I have no idea and might need to take a look into more documentation. As far as I understand communication is restricted to passing handlers and the calling app closes and opens the new app and so forth, since there is no real "user" multitasking (by restriction, because obviously the iPod player can always be in the background, for instance). It should be interesting how this can be implemented in the future, but then I might be either too skeptical or just ignorant, to say, believe in an app that can take a MIDI input via the CCK for instance, re-configure the things as you would do with a simple MIDI-panel-thingy app on the PC/Mac and then open something like Garageband and have that re-routed MIDI data sent in. If such as thing exists, then I'm more than happy to accept my infinite ignorance and would definitely consider grabbing it from the AppStore ---- What better religion than music itself? |
