Biggest mistake in Vst world for me was selling my copy of Albino 2.
Big mistake! I would now love to see Albino 3 in a audiomidi.com "No Brainer" sale. Might as well as it's coming to it's end. Everyone would be a winner then. I would jump at the chance to purchase it. ---- Life's too short to program soft synths, that's why we have romplers. |

Lets look at the fence from above: Peter made the first move, making an announcement (a clearly unfounded and definitely not arraigned announcement). RP's only rebuttal is to set things straight. Peter was clearly in the wrong here, not RP.
OTOH file formats are not intellectual property. Anybody can do a synth the loads Albino presets, there's nothing wrong with that. If the presets sound exactly the same or not is a different story, but is out of he hands/influence of the sound designer. Regardless of all that, Peter made an announcement without prior arrangement of the the "terms". This is a clearly business decision, and therefore I guess we just have to respect RP's decision. I'd imagine there's more to it than just "I'm over Albino, so we're stopping it"... I care not to speculate tbh. Of course there's more, and we shouldn't even speculate. But thing is, as a user I'd rather have a synth that loads Albino presets than have my investment in soundbanks die. If Peter doesn't do it for whatever terms then somebody else might. The gist is, the quote of Rob where he states that he won't allow his presets to be loaded into a different synth is just not his call to make. That post got me quite worked up tbh, and I spent quite some time digesting it. I can totally understand Rob's position, but nothing makes it right IMHO. Reminds me of the old days with AKAI sampler format. At some point it became a standard and every sampler could load it. If you had an S1000 and an E4, you could load all them factory sounds into the E4 and enjoy. urs is right, imo. i can't speak for peter, but to set one thing straight: peter has _not_ anounced that he _ships_ the new synth with rob's presets/albino presets at all. he said that the new synth will be able to load/import them, and _noone_ can stop him to make the new synth patch-compatible to his _own_ synth (even if it's only partly) of whatever kind. if he wants this new synth to be alble to load albino presets, it's his all right to do so. he could even make a synth that loads presets from predator or blue, if he would want to, noone could forbid that. not that he wants to, i'm just sayin... |

This maybe true but the royalties Rob was getting from Albino will stop and Linplug will be profiting from Rob's presets in their "new" synth. Last edited by awol9000 on Sun May 13, 2012 1:16 pm; edited 2 times in total |

True but the royalties Rob was getting from Albino will stop and Linplug will be profiting from Rob's presets in their "new" synth. Doesn't seem fair to me. Maybe Linplug can license the presets from Rob. Worthwhile, probably not. Well, not quite. He gets royalties from Albino sales. Those he got. Anyone who wants to use them will have to buy Albino, so Rob gets his royalties no matter what. Anyone who buys Peters new synth because he wants to use his RP presets has already paid for the presets. Nothing unfair about that... |

Not to me My advice to all developers: don't be a dick. +1. Goodwill probably means a lot more in the VST market than others. |

Albino was the first synth I fell in love with.
Loved both dev, this thread makes me sad. |

Hopefully it is just a passing cloud, a temporary bit of grey. And maybe we are making more out of it than there is, even creating controversy ourselves. I sincerely hope they can work it out and go on as friends. |

It makes me sad when mom and dad fight. Boo Hoo. This isn't your bedroom! Ok, maybe it is, but get a hold of yourselves! It's just a bunch of g-damned 1's &0's! I hope it stings like a bullwhip to the cheek and snaps your pansy-ass necks up and away from the monitor. People not programs: that's what's really important, not all these whirly-gig candy colors that beep - now go out there and give ol' ma a hug this Mother's Day and never forget: business is business. Love. Now that's something you can't buy.* *not that kind preverts! |

Too bad when Rob broke away to do his thing with ConcreteFX forming RPCX that Albino ownership wasn't decided right then and there, with either party buying the other out, instead of venturing on with the idealistic idea that two "competing" companies could share its revenues and cooperate in its continued development. This was bound to happen, no matter how cool either party is, and I have great respect for both devs. Seeing that they were able to carry it on as long as they did is a great compliment to both. |

"Presets" are beginning to sound like Monsanto's seeds ---- MuLab 4, Studio One v2. In that order. |

Not to me My advice to all developers: don't be a dick. By all mean, and I get exactly what you're saying. I did however specifically note that little bit quoted in a business context. Market share's a bitch Anyway, that's the last from me on this... these kinds of things always seem to end in tears |
