This kind of dance music reached it's peak about 7 years ago (has it's roots in France). A touch of Daft Punk, Cassius, (both French) and many others going back at least 10 even 15 years. But I suppose with a newer generation of teenagers 7 years ago is an eternity so it's easy to get away with a re-hash of old ideas.

As for 'Madeon', something doesn't seem right to me. I have a feeling some big names or people with experience are pulling the strings behind this "project". Call it a business venture, a modern version of a Stock, Aiken and Waterman type thing.
It's easy for fans to get excited and say: He's a prodigy, a genius etc but to me, as a detached, outside observer, my money is on a more standard explanation for these high production values.
The EDM scene is not immune from the concept of "creating" a star for the purpose of making money. The music industry is a business after all. Maybe this is a new tactic by some ageing EDM producers, put a fresh young face on a back end of years of experience. Just a thought. Cool

yea seems like a reasonable argument. Maybe daft punk is behind this! naw i'm just messin lol. But still seems to me like madeon's legit, i mean, look at all these young people starting to make good music. He probably spent the majority of his childhood in music and if you are musically talented and have a passion for a certain style of music, I think it's totally possible to become as good as madeon by the age of 17.

True that electronic music isn't immune to star-making chicanery. However, with the style's culture being so much less focused on the artist instead of the art, there's not near so much of a screaming market opportunity for manufacturing a star.
Or so I'd guess.

But here's a vid of the kid's hands, apparently, working a monome. This is advanced stuff.

And here he does it live, though its seemingly the same.

I think some people on this thread are inappropriately likening his stuff to earlier trends. He does what's stylistically popular *now*, not what was popular 6+ years ago. There are significant stylistic and production differences. Meanwhile, the techniques required to keep up with the jones' get more complex as time goes on.

But it's true that he sounds remarkably like other artists that are trending in the past ~2 years.

Either way, I appreciate the technical aptitude at his age, and would look forward to seeing where he is in four or more years.

I like Madeon's music. But I'm always put off by musicians whose promoting hype is their age. "I'm 16/17/prepubescent!" Who cares?

Well according to your Facebook page and a quick listen to your track, you became an advanced EDM Producer in less than a year with no previous experience!. Congrats! You should give classes, seriously... Wink

Reminds me of the spiderwalk scene from The Exorcist (director's cut).
