trying the demo.
how many vsti are you allowed. is there a limit? because i just saved a song with 17 vstis. likewise, how many vsts are you allowed per track/song. it seems steinberg is purposely and intentionally hiding info on elements limitations. i can find no info. i don't even know if it uses multiple cores. I don't know ... what do you think? How does it compare to your current DAW? |

What do you use currently, why are you switching, and what kind of music do you create? |

Here is your detailed comparison chart. Because I already have all the external vsti's and effects I need, and Elements' limitations are of no concern to me, it is by far the best value and what I use. But that is for you to decide:

Hmmm.. people or THE people?
People think its good, but the people are undecided and sometimes fickle. The people in their superstition sometimes blame it for bad harvests. Others, using reason and logic, deduce that the bad harvests are really due to poor crop rotation. The military want to fix the problem using sonar while the industrialists insist that the problem would be solved by using pro-tools. Meanwhile the rustic folk would rather stick to using reapers. Like I said, they can't really decide. ---- Aiynzahev-sounds Resonance Sound Sound Designer - Soundsets for Massive, LuSH, DIVA, DUNE, Sylenth and others Last edited by Aiynzahev on Mon May 14, 2012 9:01 pm; edited 1 time in total |

What do you use currently, why are you switching, and what kind of music do you create? i use reaper, i just don't gel with it. its, how do you say, awkward to use. i hate the cobbled together interface. im switching because i just started wring some nice stuff but, im not really enjoying writing music in the reaper environment. i hate the look of reaper too. i think the interface is mostly why id like to switch. its like a kitcar. even though you it looks like a lamborgini, it runs like a toyota. i make synthpop. |

You should try Studio One. I could never get used to Reapers UI and never put anything together in it. I find Studio one to be very fast and almost perfect for my needs as it doesn't have a lot of options for endlessly customizing, focusing you on the music imo. ---- Aiynzahev-sounds Resonance Sound Sound Designer - Soundsets for Massive, LuSH, DIVA, DUNE, Sylenth and others |

http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cubase/specs_downloads /feature_comparison.html judging by the limitations, they seem no concern to me eaither. so i see 16 vsti instrument slots, and 8 vsti fx slots. i notice that in the vst fx slots, theres no difference between versions all have 8 so surely there referring to 'per track'? which amount to a lot of fx. |

Question: Any, it doesn't matter
Answer: Studio one...it's the new reaper Seriously though, is this really ugly? http://forum.cockos.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15092&d= 1336859717 I think the stock program is kinda eh, but themes and simple modifications take the blah away. However, midi does pretty much suck in it w/o a ton of nit-picky workarounds. |

I like reaper, although, it isn't my main DAW and I probably felt somewhat the same way when I started using it. I'm not trying to say that opinions will change with time, I'm not even sure that mine has. I primarily use reaper for multitrack recording in a traditional way. I also use with NINJAM because nothing works better. Cubase 6 appears to look better than 5 (which is where I stopped), but, I don't think that it looks "great", and it has a lot of odd customization details and the windows drive people crazy. I haven't tried Studio One, but it does look good. You really can't underestimate the value of flow. It does make a difference. In my opinion, cubase was challenging in that respect. I personally find that reaper has better flow, but, ymmv. |
