Here's a few mini tracks. Just please note: there is no external processing used, not even a limiter, so you may need to turn the volume up a bit.

Synthologic
(Drums - GURU)

Digital Love Dance
(Drums - Saurus)

Boogie Heat
(Drums - GURU)

SynSaurus Pop
(Drums - Saurus)

Very impressive sounds you've got there. Makes me glad I bought Saurus.

Thanks (and to Bronto Scorpio and zvenx) Smile
and you have them too (a lot of them) as they are part of the factory set.
The rest will find their way into my signature Saurus bank (along with some other very 'vintage' sounds). Stay tuned...

I am almost finshed with my presets which i'll contribute to the first official Saurus expansion. While doing those presets i found that Saurus is both very flexible and very good (and "analog"...) sounding. With adding an EQ to Saurus at the Low Shelf (around 100 Hz) the low end sounds even better.
I have recreated a few of the Jupiter 8 sounds i made with Diva and they could sound almost identical, especially when the EQ is added to Saurus.

AFAIK an additional EQ or something comparable could be included in a future update of Saurus to improve it's "low end" further (which is already good with the current version).

I'll be working on demos of my Saurus presets very soon (maybe already tomorrow) and i'll post them on KVR soon (maybe i'll have to wait until the official release). I'll also re-render my last two Saurus demos with updated versions of my presets and also without using external FXs.

I have also found that it seems to be quite easy to recreate sounds from Diva inside Saurus but it's more difficult to recreate sounds from e.g. Xils Synthix as e.g. the Chorus and the BP filter (6dB BP for example) of Synthix sound very different (or unique).

You can do that with the Boost parameter. However, since Boost adds more bass and high frequencies, it's not good just on its own. There is a trick which helps in some situations though: simply add a little bit of filter drive - this will reduce high frequencies a bit, leaving the extra bass provided by Boost. For bass patches, mid arpeggiated patches, some brass, some leads, it's very effective. There is one side effect though. I have noticed a certain 'clicky' sound when Boost is enabled.

Hi Raphael,

i have used all of those tricks you mentioned but the easy way still seems to be adding an EQ. In several cases the low end is already enough (with using e.g. Boost, Drive, filter FM, Tube FX, etc.) and so no EQ is needed. The built-in "Boost" works nicely for some presets but in some cases the high frequencies are boosted too much. This is why an extra boost feature only for the bass would be a great addition. A full featured EQ like in ElectraX would be nice too. I had found that a boost at 100 Hz (or 110 Hz with Stillwell VibeEQ which i use) with using a Signal Analyzer and this seems to work well.

I have already mentioned all that at the Tone2 forum and via email to Bastiaan already. Bastiaan seems to be aware of my "observations" already.

I am really considering this as my new synth. I was dabbling with the idea of getting a modular synth, but now I have decided against it.

So now I am looking at Saurus, Minimonsta, and maybe Surge too.
I think Saurus wins in the CPU-usage factor though, vs. Minimonsta I mean.

It would be great to finally get Minimonsta, but for my PC, Saurus seems to have an easier time of it with less cpu issues.

Hi,

i got several "high class" VA plugins including e.g. Saurus, Diva, the 3 Xils synth, Synth Squad, Synthmaster, Dune, ImpOScar 2, Sylenth1, Tassman 4 and Arturia SEM V but Saurus seems to become more and my personal "VA workhorse" synth (also in combination with ElectraX). This is based on the sound, features, the GUI and also the CPU use.

Soon I'll evaluate my softsynths further and maybe be seeling a few again this year (like i did last year for purchasing a Moog Slim Phatty).

Cool Smile

Ingo have you tried (sorry to sorta hjack this thread) Little One? I also checked out it's demo, but it didn't knock me out, still looking at Saurus alot. Just wondered what you thought of that one as you have a Moog Phatty (or had one at some point)

I wish the Saurus had more of the "classic" sorta presets in the demo version, they are mainly other types that don't show off the core sounds it has, and then you can't initialize a preset either in the demo.

I know it can do the VA thing real well, since I have heard demos people have posted here and on Soundcloud.

Hi,

yes i know LittleOne. I had done Beta tests, also for the first version and done factory sounds for it (BTW before i had the Slim Phatty).
it's slowly approaching (current version 2.5) the sound and features of the real Little Phatty (or slim Phatty) but to be honest does still not really reach it.

The first official expansion wil be focused on "classic" analog sounds but should also contain some more modern ones. I have not tested the other contributions so far but mine will include a lot of "bread & butter" stuff like e.g. Synth Brass, Synth Strings and Lead sounds.

Hi, i have just finished my presets for Saurus and am working on demos.
As the first demos i re-rendered my "Oxygene 4" and "Abacab" tracks with a few updates (e.g. different or updated presets or drums in Abacab changed to Battery 3). There are two versions for each without any external FXs ("no FX") and with the Stillwell Audio VibeEQ equalizer used ("with EQ"). Here is the updated Soundcloud set:

http://soundcloud.com/ingoweidner/sets/saurus-demos/

The Abacab demo uses 7 instances of Saurus with 5 different presets and the drums are from NI Battery 3.
The Oxygene 4 demo uses 8 instances of Saurus including the drums. Both the Bass and the Strings preset are different to the last version i published.

BTW not all sound are supposed to sound identical to the original songs except the polysynth in Abacab and the Brass in Oxygene 4.

For better audio quality you could also check the WAV files here:
https://rapidshare.com/files/675215382/Ingo_Weidner_-_Oxygen e_4_Saurus_Remix__no_FX_.zip
https://rapidshare.com/files/1117326937/Ingo_Weidner_-_Oxyge ne_4_Saurus_Remix__with_EQ_.zip
https://rapidshare.com/files/3936154730/Ingo_Weidner_-_Abaca b_Saurus_Remix__no_FX_.zip
https://rapidshare.com/files/3850221744/Ingo_Weidner_-_Abaca b_Saurus_Remix__with_EQ_.zip

My presets (i submitted more than 110) should be part of the first official Saurus expansion. I don't know an exact release date yet but it should not take too long.

For those interested in CPU use: In none of the 4 tracks the CPU in Ableton Live 8 reached 30% on a Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU, also for the tracks which use external FXs.
