I can't decide - I'll wait until the demo licence for BH expires then finding that I have already used it in too many projects not to get it |

The Blackhole algorithm is clearly using linear interpolation, and the Dark mode in Shimmer enables this type of interpolation. - Set the High Cut to 6000 Hz or lower. - For positive Gravity settings in Blackhole, set Diffusion in Shimmer to somewhere between 0.9 and 0.99. - For negative Gravity settings in Blackhole, set Diffusion in Shimmer between 0.5 and 0.618. Listening to the tail at the end of each section, it sounds like Blackhole might be using some predelay (there is no predelay parameter in Shimmer), and might have a slightly higher allpass coefficient, as it has a bit less "fade in" than the Shimmer example. The actual music behind the effects sounds brilliant. As is to be expected with Simon's stuff. Someone should program a Twitter bot that autoresponds to any Simon Stockhausen tweet with "sounds brilliant!" Oh plenty - in my MP3 store, on Bandcamp, in CD stores (are there any left?), amazone, iTunes whatever - current stuff, albums from the past I did with my brother for ECM, EMI and other labels. Concerning the Valhalla tapes I actually had this idea some months ago, there is a thread about it here. It just needs time to compile and master all those demos, time I don't have atm. But some of those demos and experiments are probably worth releasing. |

In BH the size also determines the attack/buildup of the space so even with no predelay dialed in at higher size settings the attack changes drastically. Thank's for the flowers and praising my noodling experiments, today was experimental noodling-day because having a bad cold I gave up writing on my orchestral score after an hour and resigned to noodling around with BH, Shimmer and PitchFunk. |

I'm hearing a definite pre-delay gap in the Blackhole example, before the actual "reverberation." My guess is that there is some "fixed" delay before the series allpasses, or after the series allpasses, but before the outputs. This is a necessary addition when you add global feedback to the "lots of series allpasses" type reverb structure (Blackhole, Shimmer, Toraverb, Spacemaster, Redline Reverb), in order to avoid unpleasant coloration as the global feedback is turned up. If this is a longer delay, and it varies with size, then you will hear this as a predelay type sound with longer size settings.
