Auto-detecting hits and giving you just a simple knob for attack time to soften any hit to a note in an audio signal (and any other clever feature that you always seem to come up with).

It's rather hard this, I'm usually forced to use X-Click, X-Noise, hard compression, Compressor with sidechain to a track that plays the same notes with an ADSR like a negative of what I'd like to achieve on the instrument/signal in question.

I think you're looking of a transient shaper / envelope shaper. I can't recommend one off the top of my head because I've never used one but now you've got a search term to get you started.

I'm using Dominion v1.2 the free vst for just that but it hardly works.. the curve is way too linear, meaning it doesn't deal with the exponentially (or log going in right direction) curving transient leaving it pretty much unchanged despite how much you duplicate it (you'll end up with just a hole between a transient hit and a tail by excessive duplication).

Now you can of course use a compressor for concave (logarithmic?) adsr sounds but the problem where my one solution of compression and/or Dominion is useless is with a square LFO. Like the Corpuses' square LFOs ping pong:ing the sound to hard right and left with real uggly clicks as, those square LFOs really are perfect 50/50 Square's with no softening/ramping.

Ramping could also be a good and already established (actually... xmplay comes to mind) term for this since this seems to be alien to the whole community of :/

Schwa/Stillwell seem to have made some impressive and 'fast' dynamics tools, although I dont think I use any. I will give that a look for sure.

The one in Nomad Factory Liquid Bundle is choice. Use it on drums a lot. I think you can buy it separately. Takes a little tweaking, that's all.

Flux offers a cool transient shaper plug called BitterSweet and best of all, it's free! I've had some good results using it to get the bass attack off the kick drum, and it worked just as described. Check it out here:

I was at a NARAS seminar with Brendan O'Brien, (look him up!) and he said that the hardware version of the SPL is on every kick and snare of every record he makes since the 00's! He also said he triggers, replaces and layers stuff too, but at least it's PART of the poly-drum potion!
