aMUSED wrote: Actually I think you are missing the point. I think most people do get it that it is a tool for online collaboration. However there are always going to be times (as I discovered the first time I tried to open it) when it is not possible to access the servers for various reasons and at those times being told by the app the servers are not available, therefore goodbye, is not an acceptable option. It is possible for the app to be clearly positioned as an online collaborative tool without forcing people to put up with not being able to use it when the connection is down.
Right, so using it for the types of projects that you'd use a more conventional DAW would be silly. I.E. it's a tool for collaboration...not a tool for dedicated project management and studio work. If the servers are down then the servers are down. Something that I'm sure the Ohm folks are working hard to prevent at all times. When you stop thinking of it as a DAW and start thinking of it like Facebook for musicians it makes more sense. I reiterate, offline isn't necessary because it's not what the software should be used for. And I would argue that the Ohm folks trying to even compete in that market at this point would be a waste of time and effort. I have to say, that's one of the best UI's I've ever seen. It will be very interesting once they get all the bugs sqaushed. This is definitely something that I'd push to clients to use to make my life easier... once it's stable. The automation clips are pretty sweet.
The question is (?) can you launch it and just disconnect from the net so that your recordings don't start getting uploaded until you finish? I don't know. If not, they really need to make syncing optional / switchable. Actually ... no. |

I can't get it to install.
I'm on a macbook pro 10.7.4. The installer reports:- "There was a error during installation! Please send feedback." |

Anyone else getting spam from certain users using this as a way to access people's email addresses? That is something the Ohmies need to crack down on firmly. ---- My free patches here http://fingermarks.co.uk/music2.htm My Soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/amused ![]() |

Sorry for that. We'll do our best to avoid this kind of behaviour. I don't think we have a button to report spammers yet. I don't think the spammer has accessed your email address, these notifications are sent from our own server. I forwarded your request to our web team, thank you for reporting it.

That's Ok - another good reason for running a beta is to catch loopholes like this early I suppose. ---- My free patches here http://fingermarks.co.uk/music2.htm My Soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/amused ![]() |

that's really sad. I mean, I would never have anticipated spam from this. I'm sure the ohm's will find a way to squelch it. |

I downloaded it today and tested out my first session...
To sum this up, Ohm Studio plays out like some sort of music making "video game" you'd download on Xbox Live. I haven't read thru the manual, but I opened up a public project and before I knew it some complete stranger hopped in. All of the sudden he was just dropping in drum samples before I could even get a drumloop started in Geist. It was kind of neat. Definitely doesn't replace any professional DAW, and opens up a WHOLE can of worms concerning copyright. I would never, ever, give my input or accept someones contribution in this program seriously. I am assuming anything I create here, I'm throwing away my ownership rights, or at the very least leaving myself open to a lot of trouble. Mark my words; within a year there will be a major lawsuit because someone is going to hear a song on the radio and claim they wrote half of it with some stranger in Ohm Studio. See the can of worms this opens? People could be arguing over who contributed what to any given piece of music created in Ohm Studio. All you have to do is "drop in" a public session and lift whatever you need.... People can sue anyone for anything here in the US.... I make music for a living, so a word of advice for aspiring kids and bedroom producers; don't take this new idea of a DAW too seriously. It's a fun game indeed; but don't be surprised when you find someone claiming they created something that you actually did. It does look pretty decent; you can tell Ohm has been working pretty damn hard on this. I say enjoy it for what it is; and approach with caution. Here's to hoping the monthly fee is reasonable like 7 bucks a month like Hulu. -B ---- "music is the best" |

Isn't there a way to decide with whom I want to collaborate and with whom not? Couldn't I block someone? That's really not my taste - because I want to decide myself which people I invite or accept for collaborating. I'm still not getting ardent with Ohm Studio. But it's a great idea, and (positively) who know what it will become! Last edited by Tricky-Loops on Sat Jun 02, 2012 2:50 pm; edited 1 time in total |
