I have to learn somehow that if I see a set of letters I don't understand there is a 99.9999999999% chance it's from "that" source and ignore it. |

Couldn't I block someone? That's really not my taste - because I want to decide myself which people I invite or accept for collaborating. I'm still not getting ardent with Ohm Studio. But it's a great idea, and (positively) who know what it will become! Yes you can, you can set the project to private and then invite your friend to join the project instead of some random bypasser. ---- GAS |

I haven't installed it yet, hopefully all spam stuff gets sorted quickly.
But this aplication makes me yearn for OS-level copy/paste of midi and audio data. It would be incredible to use a 'clipboard' (probably some other sort of memory space then the current text clipboard obviously) that could allow you to copy and paste audio/midi data between the different DAWs. It would make using multiple tools much more seamless. I wonder if some sort of third-party app could be made to enable this. |

So can someone post anything created in collaboration with this tool? I think that would be interesting to hear in this thread |

Glad to know people who have tested Ohm Studio really before commenting... Thanks for the info about the "private project"... |

Yes, it's exactly like a real studio. You can leave the door open and let anyone enter and take part to the composition. You can also come with your band and let only trusted people enter. Or just work alone in the room.
Regarding import/export with other DAWs we have plans, but give us time… — Laurent |

It's a comparable project, and they offer a DAW (Digital Musician Container) and a plugin (Digital Musician Plugin) which make it possible for musicians to collaborate together online... Can you roughly say what's different between this project and Ohm Studio? |

Well...After the install you can get to a lot of that stuff. Once you get to the project page and click on the public button you see a bunch of projects with a play button to the immediate left. Click it and listen to current state of the project. Can't help you with posting music here as I doubt that would go over well with it's creator. |

Ah, so there is no public sharing option for posted songs then? That seems like something that would be a good Facebook tie-in. Well looks like I need to download the demo soon. |

I get it you can leave a session private, visible or not, maintain ownership over the session and invite or kick out contributors who you can choose to promote to owners or not.
Merely throwing out a wise word of caution, especially for those who want to put a version up of a session open to the public; and there are a lot of people already doing just that. I tried it just to see what happens. Pretty sure in the Terms of agreement Ohm Force strictly says, "we provide the service, you deal with copyrights." That, can get super messy. If your not putting food on the table with music and could care less; great. If you do make a living, or have any real ambitions to do so with music; careful buddy! No need to get in a huge discussion over the subject. Ohm Studio is indeedy the first music creation social environment on the world wide web; so it is pretty uncharted territory. You can't copyright a chat or a facebook posting, but what's going on in Ohm Studio's community you most certainly can. I've been playing around with it a little more, and even started a private session with a friend. That went much smoother. It's got a ton of kinks in it tho, but it is a little baby beta. Some constructive feedback; 1.) Not all VST's, especially third party instruments recall. So pretty much like I said earlier; this is not a replacement for a professional DAW. Recalling becomes something like in the past with an analog console. If your using third party instruments, you have to start saving presets in a fashion that remind you what preset went with what channel. I had a session with 6 synths in it and it was already a pain in the butt, then try coordinating that with all the contributors invited to your session. Fat chance. Someone joined in, and owns the same synths, and I had to email him the presets so he could recall it. And if he made any tweaks to the patch while I wasn't there, he had to email me the changed patches. YIKES. 2.) There is no export MIDI, and importing MIDI isn't exactly working either, again; not a replacement for your DAW. 3.) It saves all the time, even when you don't want it to. You can't manually "save as" when you get to a good point where you want to protect the status of a track while in session. You have to close out of the session, then create a "clone". So, even when I was working with a friend, they can start doing some crazy stuff to the session you totally wish they didn't, and unless you keep closing out of your session and cloning all the time you have no real control over saving. It saves every move/decision; good or bad. I love this company, but never understood their thought process when it comes to saving.... there's always some overly-elaborate convoluted process to something as simple as saving. 4.) The offline thing is a biggie, and probably the biggest reason this could never be considered a professional DAW and why it's more of a "fun recreational" type thing. At some point today, it just wouldn't connect to the server. That was completely out of my control, and I couldn't pull anything up at all. If I can't connect to my Xbox live server to play Modern Warfare online; no biggie. If I can't open up a session; I ain't using that DAW for anything other than fun and games. I like it over-all, but see this as a recreational program as it stands. I believe somebody compared it to World of Warcraft earlier; I "get that". There is a lot of fun to be had in the community for sure, and it's only going to get better from the beta. -B ---- "music is the best" |

Nevertheless I am waiting for more feedback before I do the "risk". Couldn't you just.. use it and make up your own opinion? He'll get back to you on that after getting more feedback about having his own opinion. (sorry, just kidding) |

I installed and am checking it out now, pretty cool. Does anyone else get a little 'Traktion' vibe with the interface? |
