Hi Ronny,
To be honest, I never used the REAL deal, but I think that's not the point I do know when a plugin adds something good to my tracks or not, or if it's THAT good or just average. Sure it's my own view and some people might think others things about these plugins, but to my "not so bad ears", they improved the tracks and so the mixes, greatly. |

Cheers, Ronny No problem The interesting thing really, is that all 3 Pultec emulations have their use and are for "shining". Same for the Fairchild emus. |

I've been using their plugs for a few years now, and I like them. I use their E-tone (EMI/TG) mastering plug in on everything, and their Analog Bundle. Too bad for me I used the iLok auth and when they've been removed due to law suits from EMI/Abbey Road Plugins, the auth has also been removed when updating my iLok account. phlendo wrote: I've never been a huge fan of their Pul-Tec plug, though. What emulation are you talking about ? The Retrology Pulse-Tec or the EQ plugin from the Blue Tubes bundle ? Check your Ilok again regarding the E-tone. It should still let you use the plug even though it's been discontinued- it says it never expires in the right hand side. The emulation I'm talking about isn't the Retrology Pulse-Tec, but the one included in the Analog Bundle (not Blue Tubes. Let me know if you're able to get the E-tone working again. |

Well, when updating the iLok, the licence got changed to "Discontinued_Etone". So the plugins do not recognize the licence anymore. It will continue to work only if you choosed the "hard drive" authorization. But if you try to reinstall them on a different computer, you won't be able to active them anymore too, even with the hard drive auth. |

Regarding their Fairchild emulation, I prefer it over IK's, etc. (just my opinion) as I like that it can be pushed easily into the red like old analog gear, and enjoy how it colors my sound. I've never been a huge fan of their Pul-Tec plug, though. IK does a great job of this, and there are some Bootsy plugs that really deliver the goods. Happy Holidays. NF fairchild emulation does not come even close to IKM 670. IKMs emu sounds like hardware, very organic and 3D. NF662 is flat and "static", does not "live" with the signal as good |

Peter: I hope there will be ANYthing from IK without an "I" before it. I hate this hype and read in another forum also that IK should concentrate on some studio FX and not only on this "oh wow, now I can change the temperature of my refrigerator with my Ipad"-stuff. Looking interested forward to your singles.
BTW: I LOVE the 670 from IK too and whatever other compressor I use (and I got a lot) I come back to this one, because I do not only READ about the magic it adds even with all parameters flat, but I can HEAR it. And its one of the nicest compressors I know too, very unobtrusive! |

While I too get annoyed that IK releases so much iOS stuff, they're probably making a killing off of it. And if they are, it's likely that those sales help subsidize other releases.
Agree 100% on their 670. The fact that compressor is modeled so well is what makes me feel a bit a disappointed in their 1176 and LA-2A models where they left out the transformer and tube input/output stages (respectively). The compression on those latter two feels right, but it still feels incomplete. Especially when you compare the Black76 against the new UAD 1176 Collection. In addition, once they added the 10db of internal gain, they never adjusted the volume on the output section to compensate. So I'm uber annoyed every time I reach for either the Black76 or White2A as the volume jumps 10db. It was a stupid oversight that should have been caught in QA testing, and if anything, should have been fixed immediately in a point release. That said, overall, I love the 670 for gentle compression, the Pultec is great on guitars, and the Black76 and White2A still get a ton of use even though there's room for improvement. |

Amen to that ! But a while ago they told, after lot of users requests, that they'll release later "enhanced version" with modeled input and output stage for more fidelity and color. I'm (we're) still waiting. Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: In addition, once they added the 10db of internal gain, they never adjusted the volume on the output section to compensate. Ditto. Sometimes I forgot about it, and while mixing with headphones, it's even more annoying. |
