I think there are many countries where the Internet, if available at all, is limited or they can't afford a flat rate to stay 24/7 online.

I'm not even sure if MOST people OF THE WORLD have access to the Internet.

It's not even just failure of the connection - what if you're traveling, or temporarily where there is no connection?

For sure, but even that is not the end of the story. What to do if you experience an earthquake, flooding, hurricane, tornado, etc.?

Fortunately I live in Germany, currently - we have rarely stronger storms, and as good as no (harmful) earthquakes. But if I'd live in another country, there may be these occurrences!

So if you make a project with Ohm Studio, and - suddenly - the Internet is down (for a longer time), you'll never get into your project.

I'll probably die. That being said, I can't see myself doing music while traveling. I know some people do (especially... pro musicians. Ok, getting your point.)

Ah, you need some power for Ohm Studio too. But for Live as well. So that's ok Razz

No offense, but taking a lax view of problematic circumstances is kind of silly, especially when a majority of the world does NOT have a 24/7 connection. Maybe where you live it does, but I live in an area where we only have a continuous connection 3 or 4 days a week, maximum, and it's in New Hampshire, USA (fairly industrial area). You should have built this thing from the ground up with those 'edge parameters' in place, not waiting to see who complains that it isn't there. I'm really not interested in contributing to something that is essentially one company's own commercially driven social media project that has no real bearing on delivering any significant change in actual artistic collaboration. I can (no joke) literally be more efficient with CD's and snail mail.

They are not gonna make an offline mode. It beats the point. It will be like playing WOW single player, boring. Why? Cause as an offline daw it's lacking many2 stuff. And yes, if the server is down, your song cannot be accessed. Internet is a requirement for this daw.

Wow. That might be the wildest thing I have read on these forums. So let me get this right... The makers of Ohm Studio were supposed to have a contingency plan integrated into the app in case of an earthquake? Really Shocked

+1 yeah I don't know how many during Katrina were worried about not being in their studio working while people were dying in the street. Seems like a good time to write some meani9ngful lyrics or something, or get to safety.

But I still think offline work should be some sort of option, even if there are caveats. What if you line is just slowed dowm, you are just having some connectivity issues, or just plain don't want to be online?

My personal favorite option would be instead of OhmStudio becoming a whole new DAW option would be to have some sort of application or plugin that would allow the sharing of partial work and the streaming of full work no matter what primary DAW you use, so if someone uses ProTools but I use Studio One, we can work with a third guy that is making the rhythm track in Live. If Ohm Studio becomes a sort of scratch-pad that easily integrates your offline work with other DAWs that would be spectacular and make its online-only approach a non-issue.

Just I couldn't see doing a whole project in it if it is online only. You may be relying on the reliability of five person's net connections which could get very frustrating.

Damn straight. I'm a musician. It's my mission in life. Requires mission-critical applications. End of story.

Never heard of the adage 'the show must go on'? Guess the Ohm Studio guys haven't either.

No offline mode and no way to sequence hardware.

Wow, they needed two years to come up with something like that ?

Forget talk of earthquakes, hurricanes etc .. this software is econonimally a none starter. The idea is interesting and the interface is certainly very nice indeed but as someone said previously, the online mode should be an option or a plugin.

Don't waste your time here anymore please, upload some more cats on the Bigwig thread.

Stop complaining. The purpose of Ohm Studio is to enable online collaboration. How are you going to do online collaboration, while being offline? Don't be silly.

Ohm Force has not (yet) the goal to deliver an universal product. An universal product would deal with 2 billions of people not having enough electrical power for their needs already. If Fender is legit to build guitar that requires power, surely Ohm Force is to make collaborative applications that requires a working internet connexion - I hope this makes things clearer. We simply want to make something useful to at least *some* people, and that's enough to keep us busy, believe me Razz

Now what you say here is that even in a country like the USA, in a fairly industrial area, you could have a very weak internet service. Point taken - infrastructure limitations for users certainly are something we want to understand better. Anyone expressing mandatory need for off line feature, can you please describe how your internet is working ? Really just trying to get a picture here.

Reconnect when Ive got the bit Im working on done?

Or are you assuming 'online collaboration' can only mean 'online live collaboration'. You want to cripple the options for refining something at your convenience before passing it back to your collaborator? Why?
