Hi.
I added Paulstretch to Audacity and it's available here for win32. The modified source code is available in the same directory.

The effect is available in the main menu "Effects"->"Paulstretch".

Please note that this version of Audacity it is an
unofficial version which can have bugs/issues not present in the official version.

If you want to have this effect in the next official versions of audacity please ask the maintainers of audacity to include it (I made a patch for it).

Enjoy. Wink

Paul

How would a non-hacker go about modifying Audacity with Paulstretch for Mac OS?

Is it even possible/doable at this time?

I would love to have Paulstretch available in an editor.

Hopeful regards,

Joachim

This sounds cool, thank you Paul, I know how much effort you put into this effect's Audacity integration. I hope Martyn will have it included in an official release at least, once and for all.

Paulstretch is an extremely valuable tool for instant drone-madness, I can make every track haunting, that's why I love it so much!

Timestretching real-time audio get problematic, as you essentially need an infinite sized buffer to hold the input.

Getting similar audio effects is possible with existing VSTs. The Paulstretch algorithm, IIRC, uses randomization of large FFT frames to get a "smoother" time stretching, which results in a distinctive phase blurring sound. The Michael Norris Spectral Blurring AU can get sounds almost identical to Paulstretch with massive time stretching, as it works on a similar principle. In the time domain, cascading a bunch of instances of ValhallaShimmer will create a "Gaussian" time envelope for the reverb, which is very close to a huge windowed FFT with randomized bin phases.

Paul stretch is nothing short of great. I've used it extensively in ambient, and can really open up new perspectives on any audio material.
