Hello forum, I'm looking for some of the best EDM sound designers on this forum to show me what you can do. In this topic I was hoping for us to discuss some "non-basic" techniques to make those "big room" synths, leads, plucks, etc. Perhaps things such as certain effects, lfo modulations, multiband compression, etc. Let us know how you do things and I'll share some of the techniques that I personally use to produce some of my sounds |

Have you ever seen these videos: http://www.dancemusicproduction.com/
? I've watched his video on drums and have been thinking for a while about getting his one where he mixes a whole track. I just don't know how deep it goes and there's no preview. Really didn't find the groove3 dance music video very good. The song was really boring and He babbled a lot. I don't think there was anything stand-out about his result but maybe I need to revisit. ---- Aiynzahev-sounds Resonance Sound Sound Designer - Soundsets for Massive, LuSH, DIVA, DUNE, Sylenth and others |

Congratulations, that made you come across as REALLY smart. Don't see why people won't "pay" to learn something in these days... Historically an art that was handed down didn't come for free. I've paid for many tutorials, and they still keep giving back, especially Rick Snoman's stuff. |

Your hope is futile. Surprising as it might be, but all those "big room" synths, leads and plucks are result of basic techniques. ---- Wonder whether my advice worth a penny? Check my music at Soundcloud and decide for yourself. re:vibe and Loki Fuego @ Soundcloud |

Not to draw you out too much, but could you at least tell us what basic techniques you are familiar with (and don't mind sharing, given that many of us also know them) so that we can then get to the 'non-basic' specifics that you really want to hear from us? Also, the posts by others here - particularly those by Aiynzahev and Andy - are worth following, if only to confirm / contrast with what you maybe already know. And, fwiw, I think your music production skill is very good as exhibited in your songs - it's much better than I was at your age (eighteen) - but there are plenty of professional sound designers, musicians and audio engineers here at KVR, so it might be worth PM-ing a few as well for advice and help. |

I believe this to be true. If you want to sound like Teisto. It simply isn't about the sounds. It's the arps, the effects, the automation, the loops, the production ability. But it isn't the sounds that are difficult in modern dance music. The sounds are available from the presets included with many synths, and the many edm sounds in soundsets sold, and free. Then just examine the sounds you like, and see how they were done. Incorporate some of the things you learn, into your own sound creation. Most sounds in edm, you will find, are very simple to do. You will also find that doing pads, for any style of music, is not easy to do. For the dance stuff, having good voice unison, and detune ability is probably the most important feature needed. It's still the processing, automation, and fx production methods that make it work. EDM synth sounds are everywhere, no need to start of from scratch. Better to tweak others sounds, and learn from them, to eventually get into doing your own sounds from scratch. |
