energy XT2 vs mutools? Has anyone seen mutools? Does anyone think it compares to EXT2? Last I checked it was still being updated where EXT2 is not anymore. I'm not using mutools...yet!

Couldn't get on with it, something about the midi editing and general routing just didn't make as much sense to me as ext. So I stuck with ext. Smile

Way more modular, actually REAL modular. You can build your own synths and effects in it from scratch and the sound quality of the modules are second to none.
Check out the MUX which is like the combinator but amazingly deeper.
Pianoroll superior with a fantastic event editor.
Parts have their own internal loops independent from the main loop.

I can go on forever but the Most Important Thing IS: It's alive and developed on a daily basis and the developer is there every day answering and solving issues sometimes as fast as within few hours. Surprised

In Sum: Awesome. Very Happy

I don't really use any of them; but I tried Mulab and it seemed to me a promissing product (centuries ago I used to be a Muzys user); it's not impossible that I get a license one of these days. On the other hand XT2 was a total fiasco and is slidding into oblivion, although once there were vague promises of XT3 by Jorgen; I must note that I used XT1 exclusively for many years (so I "have" XT2, using which I never got to have anything done), and I'm slowly moving to Reaper (you guessed: the modular thing is not important to me). I admit that the piano roll in XT2 is IMO easier to use than Mulab's, (and Reaper's, by the way) but then XT1's is better. If a modular environment is important to you, I sugest that you use XT1 vst or vsti inside any other host, or even XT1 standalone... or Mulab.

And avoid XT2 like the plague.

+1 for XT1.4, still superb.

After about a week of trial, I like them both. Did notice that MUX really likes multi thread capable computers and really bogs down my old single core 3GHz. EXT2, however does well here. I'm not really finding my self getting into MUX's visual style as I guess I'm just old school and archaic. Hell I remember DOS versions of texture. Maybe this is what attracts me to EXT's visual style. In either case the capacity to turn off visual and change up looks to suit my focus is important since it doubles as processing efficiency.

I was using XT from 1.4 and then immerse myself into XT2 because of the future plans that Jorgen outlined.
Then I discovered MuLab and Jo the developer, ALWAYS on the forum answering, fixing, improving everyday or so.
The modularity of MuLab is amazing in the standard DAW world and the MUX, coming out as a VST, is the heart of MuLab.
In the MUX you find from Samplers to superb drum machines, components to build you own synths and effects and modulation for your VST etc, etc.
What can I say. XT is still a neat DAW that could have been a leader in its price range but MuLab is way above it's current price range and the MUX will create a shockwave in the VST world as well.

Reaper is fully modular on plugin/host level - even allowing feedback! Wink

Basically XT needs to be updated. Seems like the main reason people are moving away from it. It has potential but has pretty much become abandonware.

I'm not really into the default gui of mutools but its functions are unparalleled to energyxt. also, it's easy and you can quickly get a track sketched. in this price range, it's the legitimate successor of ext

MuLab is great host... but it isn't made for me... something in it's workflow is always against my way of making music... same for reaper... I admire those two hosts and have great respect for developers for lots of reasons, I have used them and tried even in beta phase, but they just overgrown me.
If you are just starting, get any one of them and learn them by heart, they are both better and more stable than xt.

Agree. MuLab is a little different than other host but the latest version has a more standard way of working.
The MUX has changed everything in the modular way you work with VST.
You may want to use it in your XT as well. It really complements XT and it could probably become the perfect ideal unmatched duo : XT+MUX.

BTW, looking forward to XT3. It will show up... Wink
