Random question....
You know how in Reason.. you can Audition Effects Patches on a audio track and Audition synth patches and all that.. in the Browser Before Loading them? And you can just hit Cancel and it will stick with the patch you already have loaded? I really like this workflow option.. Are there any other Hosts? or Multi Effects Plugins that operate like this? where you can audition the patch/effects but not load them? makes browsing through patches to find the right one.. a breeze |

Wow what a great question. I haven't seen it though! I don't know if my poor CPU could really handle it TBH, because while Reason synths are good, they are not the monsters of the plugin world. It could crash a host if the plugin were not coded correctly. ---- ![]() |

Live can do this with their native plugins. IIRC it's called hot-swapping. ---- "I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms" "Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary" "It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t" SoundCloud |

Apologies for the self-promotion, but all the Loomer plug-ins do exactly this. You can bring up the preset browser and quickly step through presets with the cursor keys. Whilst the browser is open, you can hit Escape to cancel, reseting the plug-in to how it was before the browser was opened. Or press Return to accept the selected preset.
You can also do this with the partial presets too: great for quickly choosing Sequent's Looper or Filter settings, for example. |

I wouldnt call it auditioning, but many plugins have A and B 'slots' to flip between settings. EQs do a lot...
Sonalksis Waves The Glue DMG? Ohmforce's preset system allows a lot of exprimenting too. I wouldnt mind if a basic 'undo' button became standard on all plugins. "Undo whatever I just did" I have on occasion accidentally hit the 'next preset' button on a synth while in a session and had to immediately stop, save, load an old project file, save my synth settings, reload the new project file, load my settings. Anyone else ever do that? Wtf. What is the solution for that dumb shit? I guess the synth settings are prolly buried in my daw project browser somewhere, but its still an 'oh shit' moment. |
