I have a lot of redundant pathways for samples and sounds in the Absynth 5 Directory on my Mac (running Logic) and was wondering if others have had this problem. First, I have both the old .ksd patch format and the new .nabs format, sometimes in the same folder and sometimes in separate folders. Am I correct in assuming it is safe to delete the .ksd files if I no longer intend to use them in Kore?
Also, I don't understand why I have redundant folders in the Absynth 5 and Shared Support sub-directories in the Lib/App Support/NI/ path. Are they necessary, and, if so, is it again just to make them available in Kore? Finally, it is frustrating that my downloaded Absynth patches end up in my User/Docs/NI/Absynth5/Sounds folder, whereas the associated samples end up in Lib/AppSupport/NI/Absynth5/Samples/UserDownloads. I would love to be able to delete some of these folders and arrange them more logically since it makes navigating within Absynth very tedious. Any suggestions and/or advice will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Borealis |

This is one of the reasons I hate installing NI stuff--because it pukes random directories all over your hard drive. One of my friends tried to clean up his OSX install of Komplete a little bit, and ended up breaking everything just by making a few simple folder moves. He ultimately had to reinstall Komplete, which of course takes roughly 150 hours.
My advice: don't touch it. If you can't live without Absynth, just close your eyes and pretend the mess isn't there. Personally, I like the synths in K5 enough to keep it installed, but only because I already have it--I will never buy anything else from them in the future, as dealing with their software and support is just the worst kind of nightmare imaginable. |
