I found no time to update the manual yet, but will do soon.

..a few facts and details for now..

#Q I want the sound of the previous version!

#A Switch the slow release "off" (i.e. set slow release smaller than fast release) and chose the "Dyn RMS" detector. "Dyn RMS" is the dynamic RMS size detector known from previous versions of the compressor.

#Q What about upward compression? What's that strange "DRY MIX" control?

#A Load the "Upward compression reset" preset. Then, increase makeup-gain to taste (and tweak the threshold). Watch what happens in the transfer function display!

#Q What is slow release / fast release?

#A The compressor has two independent detectors, the fast one uses the setting set via the "Detector" control, while the slow one only tracks the "body"/steady state content. The compressor automatically switches to the detector that triggers the highest gain reduction. You can see the level of both detectors in the detection meter, the blue part represents the slow detector, the white part is the fast detector. I will soon add a small LED dynamically to indicate which "release path" is taken.

Might try putting a few presets together, Ive worked with Kjaerhus Gold compressor and it had a 2 stage release process for emulating the Opto Compressors very similar to this. You set the 1st release at whatever time and then you could blend in a 2nd release from 01-100 ms with a parallel mix nob. It also had the same for program dependancy with 5 different envelope algorithms that were representative of the different dynamic modes available.. VCA. FET, and OPTO. marqui Compressor from voxengo is similar with its feedback mode, you set the original release time and then use the PDR envelope to control the 2nd release time. Ive basically made tons of presets of lots of different classic hardware units, Processors like these are truly amazing. You can look up a hardware model of compressor online and find the specifications and match it as close as possible. True, you have to take into account the various non linear attributes, but there is that many fx you can apply after for the tube and valve stage the possibilities are limitless. The distortion on the Marqui compressor is very similar to the waves puigchild which is admonished by many as the best emulation going, so much so they even built a hardware model. Anyway, the TDR compressor is looking very promising and i shall be spending a good few hours testing some preset ideas out on it to see how it sounds. Ill check out the advice above for support but cheers for the compressor.

I like the new release system as well. Comparing it to the older version, it has wayyyyy more mojo and actually seems more like the only compressor required on a mix bus. The detector setting is fascinating and really brought control to the transients.

Thanks for fixing up the dry mix control. This is one of my favorite compressor Smile

One question remains, how has the 3db HP been changed? I noticed it is tunable but before had a set cutoff? Is the cutoff still the same as before?

The 3dB/oct cutoff is variable (but you're right, it wasn't before).

Here's a plot of both filters set to 300Hz:

Hi FabienTDR and thanks for the free comp Smile
Anyway I have a question for you: is the hi-color an hi-shelf? I thought it was an harmonic generator but to my ears (and looking at the frequency response plot) seems that, even if there is a certain harmonic coloration (really really really small), most of the "change" is attributable to the hi-shelf boost Question
Am i wrong?

So I was just trying this out on a drum&bass buss and the 2buss. This thing can really bring out the kick. Other compressors can do something similar but they muddy the sound, this is so transparent I can but it on the mix and it simply levels out the volume. It see in the meters all the reduction but I can hardly hear it.

Anyway, great compressor. It reminds me of the Sonalksis, maybe it's just the way it looked. But I always liked that one.

Love the house music on your label by the way, will probably pick some of those up soon.

@alteregoxxx: Well, it looks like that. There's a smooth shelving behaviour appearing as side-effect of the harmonics creation. But the amplitude increase is due to *new* harmonics only. A high shelf is formed by adding a high-passed copy to the original signal. the HF color however only adds harmonics of the high-passed original (with inverted polarity).

You can easily double check what I said with the "delta" switch:

1. set ratio to zero to bypass the compressor
2. hit the delta switch (you should hear "nothing")
3. activate the color section and listen closely, this is something else than a simple hi-pass Smile

@Aiynzahev: thanks! Glad you like the music Smile

I just played with this plugin for a while and I am very impressed.

This plugin can do tons of gain reduction but the makeup gain goes only up to +12db.
Could you please consider increasing the makeup gain range. Maybe even up to +24db (gain reduction meter goes shows up to -48db of gr).

Thanks.

@filter303: The gain reduction meter is clickable. You can set it from 6 to 48 dB Smile

Edit: I'm currently writing a manual, give me a few days!

I know it's clickable. It's actually one of my favourite features Smile. I just wish I could do more makeup gain because sometimes it's nice to do extreme compression. Extreme compression needs more makeup gain than 12 db. The glue for example can do +40db. I am not complaining of course. Just letting the genie know my wishes Smile

I usually don't read manuals of the hardware products I buy, but with software that has a lot of new features it will always come in handy. So thanks for writing the manual for this plugin.

I should read more carefully Wink

Mhhh.. I'm open for 6dB more (18dB in total), but I'm not sure if it really helps in most cases. The price to pay is an inferior "feel" and less accuracy during use. IMO there's nothing worse than an erratic gain knob.

I would be interested to hear what other people say about the idea.

[working hard on the manual]

+1 for +6dB Max boost button. For extreeeme compression we have square waves. Agree about the feel. It feels so good now.

My 2dB.
