Does anybody actually care really ? or is it much like Ohm studio and will be a new shiny shiny for a good ten minutes before being forgotten and ending up a waste of coders time ?
Nothing has attacked the market since Reaper (And that only did it because it was so bloody cheap) Not entirely sure there is a gap left for a new expensive DAW, especially one that will lack so many basic features at V1, recent releases like S1 have shown that it is very hard to get a foothold and Presonus had the advantage of shipping it with their hardware, Bitwig have no advantage. $50 yeah impulse buy and huge customer base $500 (Retailers now stating this price, even more in the UK) and it is uber fail. Good luck to em, but if they think they have a winner on their hands at those prices in this economy, they are sadly mistaken (Get ready for the sales on this one guys and don't buy straight away, it will be discounted heavily in no time at all hahahaha) |

Yeah, the "shiny, shiny". From their perspective they probably just want to be profitable, pay their bills and salaries on an ongoing basis, keep their jobs, which may not be all that hard to do. The other stuff is for users to debate, how much of the market they may or may mot get, who leads and who trails,, etc. Like Reaper, the smaller the team and the lighter the overhaed, the better. At the root of it all is a hope for viable and ongoing self-employment. Keep the lights on, keep the payroll going. Anything that does that is a winner for the developers. |

I don't think people are excited just because it's the OMG NEW SHINY. I am pretty excited about it because it has the potential to be Ableton Live minus the bugs/crashes/poor development process. But it's not like people are just going to buy it without trying it just because it's the new DAW on the block--well, some people might, but you know, a fool and his money, and so forth.
However, if you are correct that it will be priced at $500, they will probably be bankrupt before they reach version 2. The stupidly high price is one of Ableton's biggest flaws--Bitwig Studio needs to be $250-$300 tops if they really want to stand a chance at all, especially with Logic being $199 now. But time will tell. If they price it too high, I personally will lose interest immediately. If it is priced fair, I will definitely give it a serious shot, as I would like to find a replacement for Live that doesn't crash everyday... |

Beside the price tag, would the security, being a Dongle, C/R etc., be an issue for anyone? However, if you are correct that it will be priced at $500, they will probably be bankrupt before they reach version 2. edit: misread what you said. My bad. If it is dongle-protected, I personally will not even consider it. No dongles for me, regardless of price/quality. Ideally, one would like to see them not treat their customers like criminals, but that seems to be the SOP in the music software industry these days, so I'm sure there will be some ass-violating DRM attached to it, even if it isn't a dongle. Let's just hope they have the courtesy to use a little lube. |

What's crashing your Live? I am running 8.3 with M4L on 3 different machines and never get crashes, most of the crash reports on the forum have gone since 8 came in- took them a while (probably due to staff leaving!) but I think most user (going by the forum) find 8.3 rock solid - Solid enough for major players to use it 'live'.... Personally I will stick with live as long as it has Max, there really is nothing else even comparable in terms of customisation and 'fun' (if you're a geek like me!) As for a V1 new product being more stable- possible, but unlikely…..I wish BitWig well, but I think almost anyone that wants something clip based will have bought live, a few may swap over, a few may try it that didn't get on with live; but enough to support a business? All Ableton need to do is wait until just before BitWig launch and then announce V9- people will then wait to see- (but how long can the wigs go without revenue un less their bagger has deep pockets…) |

This is not directed at anyone in particular, but it's disturbing to me that a) so many people have so many varied results even if system specs are similar and b) that people INSIST that just because they are not having problems, the other is invalid.
Anyways, It's about time for me to start my shredding exercises |

Anyways, It's about time for me to start my shredding exercises Yeah, the devil is in the microcode. Similar isn't identical, that's what makes personal computers, well, personal. And since it's personal - it is all about me. Before you start, remember to put on the safety gear - the goggles and ear protection. I think if bitwig can give a live suite equivalent for $250-300, they'll be gold. Let's see...surge for the synth, shortcircuit for the sampler.... |
