It does seem like some people have it out for certain software on forums. Never understood that. Never understood fanboys either. Fanboy meaning.. no matter how many problems a software will have.. they argue with people complaining about said problems.. But yea.. never liked too much negativity either.

That said

I LOVE Reason and most other hosts out there, each one gets a gripe or 5 from me but its all good.

Griping about real problems you are having with software you paid good money for and just bitching about software you have not bought or even used much are two different things. depends though..

I think a lot of people have high hopes for software and want it to work to their specs and when it is released and doesn't meet up to their specs they get a little angry sometimes.

In the end.. most of us would like to just focus on making music(and post on forums instead of making music like me) and not have any stops during creative moments.

True, true.. and I can respect that. There's plenty of criticisms I have of my own. The issue I have are those who seem to just lurk in these posts and bash... and bash... AND BASH.. when they obviously don't even use the tool anymore, have sold it, and/or just moved on.

I mean seriously - why keep posting in these discussions? It's pathetic, really. Go figure! Very Happy

So you're still a registered user then - seeing as Forums (plural) implies you have access to all of them.
What a complete and utter twat you are.

Hmmm..some of you are not fair. I am in General forum only, since i am not an user yet. But i just visited first two pages and they are all full of problems or issues. Some of them aren't named as "issues" but if you actually read what people have to say then you'll find that various users have various problems.

Some reported (confirmed) completely broken Alligator effect, some reported problems with Pulsar, quite a few have dongle issues which is again split by various problems ie some can't authorize dongle, some can't download RE's to dongle, some can't even authorize whole Reason.

Another few have "bad format" etc.

On common reason. They all started to have problems after they installed 6.5 upgrade.

It's simply there i am not making it up.. Confused I am guessing that it's half rushed release or something. Nothing unusual but far from being "perfectly stable".

Kmonkey,

What you'll find on the PUF is that the overwhelming majority had zero issues with installation and RE usage. There also appears to be a vocal minority that are not "power users" of computers or software / didn't read installation notes and went directly to the forum before reading.

Now, that said, there did seem to be a server issue in the first few days that has been resolved for most.

A dedicated noise gate would be nice, one that we can drop in (easily) after the effects on a guitar track. I'd pay a small fee for that.

As it is, while some of the prices are quite nice, others make me think this is all payback for the 'pay what you like' deal we had for 6.0!

Are you not using the noise gate on the audio tracks in the mixer? I use a Line 6 HD 500 so I get the additional gate before Reason but really think the internal gate is solid.

Maybe he means something for side-chain gating a reverb (ie, on any rack device reverb that doesn't have a gate like the R7000's) or delay, like Logic's gate?

I might pay a few bucks for that - there are a few ways of doing it now (maybe control the volume of the reverbed signal with an envelope follower from the dry signal), but it might be nice to reach for something quick when you need the more advanced features of a gate (hysteresis) without wiring up Thor.

Heh, then again, I actually enjoy doing the conceptual gymnastics and figuring out how to do these things with Reason's core tool set. The more you do those thought exercises, the easier it is to sculpt any sound and even exploit any synth. I've had a great time with the Polysix and the (AU, unfortunately) Minimoog in great part because intuitively understanding those routings is so integral to controlling a synth; there's no better way to learn those routings than with deep experience in a modular environment.

That goes against what I have been seeing on the forum, although it has calmed down quite a bit over the last couple of days.

As a Reason user for years, I can honestly say that except for a few, am not impressed with REs and VERY DISAPPOINTED that more insrtuments weren't made. As of right now, I don't think any of the refill developers have anything to worry about. No sample choppers/slicers???!!! No guitar amp/fx RE's??!!! I'm glad it was a free upgrade.

That works fine but is pre-fx, so any 'high-gain' distorto nonsense I put together down the line using Reason fx has no effect on the gate. That's what I've found so far anyways, but I'm more than happy if someone can prove me mistaken in that regard.

I use the POD FARM software sometimes (pre-Reason) and in that case for me the gate on the mixer works fine, but (as with yours) the gate in pod farm is fine as it is.

Apologies for the thread drift.

This is a great point which I can totally appreciate. Someone posted a video the tubeweb somewhere about routing audio through Thor to act as a noise gate post fx. I don't quite understand it though, but nonetheless learned how to route audio into Thor. Wink

Did you see the poll that was made on user experience? It had results that showed the overwhelming majority had it up and running in 15 minutes or so.

Yes, some had problems but there hasn't been any confirmation one way or another if that was internal, end user or code.

Ahhh. Never needed a gate used like that before. Are the internal devices that noisy on guitar or is the gate used in side-chaining used as an "effect" of sorts?

In Reason, at the very top of an audio track or mix track in the big SSL Mixer there's a section called "INPUT". First you have the GAIN and INV. After that you have a "SIGNAL PATH" section. The first button is called "INSERT PRE" and what it does, when enabled, is that it turns "Insert Section Pre Dynamics and EQ" ON.

In other words. It puts the insert effects of that track before the dynamics and EQ. Sounds like what you're talking about, no? :)

According to the very real polls that have been taken, over 90% of users have had zero problems. The remaining 10% seem to be related to not uninstalling all of the beta software prior to upgrading, as well as server load issues.

I do see there are a few remaining bugs that have very publicly been reported on, though. The Alligator issues appear on 32-bit versions of Reason (unusually high DSP use) as well as a few CV-bug issues with an RE or two.

It looks like there wasn't much participation in that poll (roughly 150, out of how many Reason users?). I wonder how many users either didn't see that thread or skipped over it? I skipped it, and most of the names that I remember having problems aren't in the poll. I think that it isn't very meaningful.
