Horseshit, it's just one person's evaluation. Nice way to accuse that poster of warez use.

Well, if you write "copy protection does not protect anybody from anything" that kind of sound like you know what you are talking about. Own experience kind of.

If it's so second nature going to these places and look for stuff that you know this is the case - then draw your own conclusions.

Are you saying he does not know what he is talking about?
Sounds to me like he does.

Let's take the creators side of it:

1. It cost a lot of money using these protection systems and it makes products more expensive.

Pick and choose:

a) Yes, but people running companies are idiots anyway - so they spend money on stuff that has no effect.
b) It has an preventive effect on warez use - so getting paid for more of what is used out there it also makes it possible to keep prices lower.

Nonsense.
When looking on some warez sites about my own plugins (to remove them from the filehosters) I see that nearly everything is present there.
Just type "[anycompanyname] [anypluginname] air x86" into google and you'll see, that copy protections are useless.

Cars with alarms still get stolen, houses with locked doors still get broken in to, and protected software gets cracked.

We still have to 'try' and make it more difficult for people who steal. However, people who use cracked software and torrent sites normaly get what they deserve- virus, spyware, identity stealing, old versions of software, no support and no sence of worth in a product- just a drive full of stuff you dont need or understand....(and some spyware ready to steal your bank details- what goes around comes around....)

Several people have mentioned OS images as a backup. Here's the thing... that is exactly how I operate. Problem is the soft eLicenser deactivates during re-imaging even though it was authorized when I made the backup image. In 10+ years of making music with software this is the ONLY CP system that does this. I do not know why and I do not have a work around. This is why I have to go back and "repair" my elicenser after re-imaging. Arturia did not force me to make system changes but they have the only product on my computer out of countless plugs that refuses to allow me to backup my license. I'm no stranger to copy protection and every other software I own is safely backed up no matter what I do to my computer.

Have a read of this:

"None. I hate copy protection. I suffered from it in the past. I've lost countless hours because of copy protection. I believe copy protection only punishes the honest customers. The software gets cracked anyway. I simply refuse to waste my resources on copy protection schemes. Instead I want spend my time on supporting existing products and to improve them and to develop new plugins.
I do believe in a world of trust. Copy protection's got nothing to do with that."

From a dev.

Stop generalising that "if you say this it must mean that" as it's illogical and just shows what _you_ think, not what others necessarily think, and certainly doesn't represent some kind of objective 'truth".

And again, why not stop throwing out accusations, hmmm?

I'm repeating - I think my reasoning makes sense.

Did anybody say warez does not exist????????????????????????
Did anybody say copyprotection solves all problems with warez?????????????????

It's like saying that cartheft and breakins at departments exist - no use having locks on cars or your home either.

AND DON'T MAKE IT A CRIME CAUSE EVERYBODY IS DOING IT!

I don't get that reasoning - but that are the arguments that you hear all the time.

Some wise guy has said - locks and rules are for honest people. Those that are determined to parasite on others - will do so no matter what you do.

The urge to give something back comes with age and is part of growing up.

a) The little baby has every right to be given everything they need.

b) As you grow older you learn more and more that you have to give something back.

c) And the ultimate proof that you are grown up is that you also feel joy and satisfaction from giving something back.

Some people just never grow up - that's all.

I'm not being hard on younger people still at school. Being a child and are given everything by your parents you don't really have the full picture what makes society work.

But that is what education is for - preparing young people for adulthood and understanding what is right and what is wrong.

This thread isn't about cracked software. It's apparently about buggy copy protection because re-installing the eLicenser control center just solved my problem even though the software told me specifically yesterday that I needed to contact the dev for a repair permission. Confusing and stupid.

Anyway, back to finishing my projects.

It's funny that you don't notice sarcasm in that quote.
The original meaning of that statement is that locks and rules make life difficult only for honest people.

My favorite guitar was recently stolen from me. If I'd had bars in our shop window, I'd still have it today.

One of the nice things about Live is it never replaces old versions of itself. So... if it ever goes 64 bit Rolling Eyes I'll always at least have the last version to use until all the problems are ironed out.

I just think sometimes what seems a curse turns out to be a blessing and I've had interesting results restricting what I could use or doing a genre I'm not familiar with. Right now, I'm working without any NI synths on the 64 bit computer and it feels weird, but it doesn't stop the music. Good for you SAW. Hopefully it works out.

Mad (at thief!) Yeah, I understand copy protection. I just don't use dongles. Nothing against them.
