Good question about the price. And what was the conclussion of this thread anyway? Am I buying it?

Truth, if it looked like duende i'd have paid more attention. However I did demo it and found really brought out the thump in the kick. I was really impressed but at the time i was also trying out
Tokyo Dawn compressor and found that it did the same. Not saying it does everythinh the busspressor does. Related- the old timer seems to increase the clarity on the kick on light settings.

Id buy buspreasor but I.m in non spend mode for a while.

Anyways, again, it seems to do what it's supposed to and JRR shops price was lower than the "special" price. Wish they had better instructions for the "hpf/side chain thing" (seems they just mention it w/o explanation?)

The S.C. HPF is a high-pass filter in the input detector circuit that will allow lower frequencies to pass through the compressor unnaffected.

Turning it up can bring the kick and/or bass back into focus, if you feel they're being compromised by the compression

Conclusion? I like it and it's a good alternate SSL flavor to the Duende bus comp. It's more 4K to the Duende's 9K (consoles, not frequencies), plus it has some Smart additional features (get it?). That makes two straight-up SSL-style bus comps for me with the Duende, so I feel like I'm not missing too much from Waves, UAD and Cytomic. I also have three other Duende compressors between the channel strip, vocalstrip and drumstrip (plus one hardware 9K comp in my X-Rack for tracking, etc.).

Hibidy: you asked earlier about channel compression vs. bus compression. I'm no expert by any means, but try mixing into the bus comp. That might make you back off of the channel compression some. Do what sounds good to you (obviously) and look for the gluing effect from the bus. It's really easy to overdo with channel, group and master compression, and then think of mastering on top of that (and then broadcast). The cumulative effect of even 1 dB per stage definitely mounts up.

Side-chain high-pass filter: use that to make the compressor less reactive to bass. The filter is in the detector path. The detector controls the compression. It can be counterintuitive and with higher settings, you can make things sound weird and unnatural. Generally, if your bass is making the compression pump too much, you can use the side-chain high-pass to lessen that. If it's set too high and/or you don't adjust the compression to suit, you might get pumping in reaction to the mids and highs.

Again, thanks! I've playing with it allot and like what I'm getting from it. I mean the concept is easy to understand, but I guess what I worry about is overall what its going to do in the larger picture.

What I've noticed with buss pressor with subtle addition (not just cranking the buss and making it "louder" is that on a drum buss, the cymbals jump a little more, and a bit of "thickness"
