I'll add to the poster above... any possibility of banks for Poise in the future? I have an MPD18, too, and it would be great to have banks A B C and D (even though the 18 only uses A B and C) to trigger additional samples without loading another instance (or two) of Poise.
I believe you mentioned you wanted to do this in the future, Shannon.. is that true? |

But it is possible to use multiple instances. Poise's note maps make it pretty simple to configure a second Poise to act as a second bank. I know it's not quite as convenient.
frozenjazz wrote: The last small question concerns stereo samples: I would love to know if a sample is stereo or not. It is ok to have a mono waveform, but a small indication (like a small "s" somewhere) to indicate that this sample is stereo would be cool, as a reminder. This sounds like a good idea. I'll keep it in mind for the future. I don't think it will work in this current version of Poise. The waveform display area is quite small and already crowded. I think it would be too much to squeeze in more information and it would look unnatural IMO.

I'm really on the fence about adding more pads/banks. Sometimes I want to load up a whole heap of samples, other times I like how the 16 pads forces me to carefully consider what samples are loaded. I've always had a problem with "this snares not quite right, lets load another one" and I end up with 6 different snare samples loaded when I probably should just pick one. Poise helps me reign that bad habit in.
I believe you mentioned you wanted to do this in the future, Shannon.. is that true? Adding more banks/pads is not going to happen in any 1.x version of Poise, it's too much to add into the current architecture. It's definitely something that will need to be considered if I ever get the chance to do a Poise version 2.0. (There's certainly a few other features I would like added.) I won't make the more pads/banks decision myself, I'll survey Poise owners instead. Lot's of people have bought Poise because of it's immediacy and I think future developments need to respect that. *Disclaimer: Any talk of future features is just that, plans may change over time. |

you are right for the simplicity and immediacy of Poise, this is why I am considering it.
now, for the different banks, I can find a workaround using several instances. in fact, I rarely need more than 8 drums sounds, but then I also would love to use Poise and my MPD18 for non-drum samples, and I love to have many samples, and Poise allows for an extremly fast workflow: copy paste and then change pitch, or change beginning / end of sample. In this case, I sometimes would love to use several banks - but yes, you are right anyway, when playing "live" and trying to find ideas, I don't use more than 16 at a time. And really, an "undo" feature would probably be more important than the bank selection thing. |

I am 100% behind not adding more banks n stuff like that, it's Poise's simplicity I love. ---- Forward ever, Backward never |

OK well so far so good with the beta testing, I've been putting Poise through the normal stress tests, messing about with all the parameters, trying to trip it up, and well so far so good. It's handling big samples now at break neck speeds, layering is working, the modulation and ADSR stuff seems to be working fine, distortion, filters etc all OK (I'd love you to include a band pass filter So thats Poise beta tested in Cubase 6.5.1 64bit on Windows 7 Ultimate, excellent work on this Shannon, seems to be very stable considering Delphi 64 is really still a beta itself. ---- Forward ever, Backward never |

The next Poise 64 bit Beta (version 1.1.42) has been uploaded!
Bug Fixes: - Drum pad names weren't reported to the host correctly. Therefore hosts were unable to display drum pad names in their piano rolls. - The Waveform display wasn't being updated when changing drum pads. - Beta version: Didn't draw the CUT/CUT BY text in the correct position on the drum pad. - The preview volume knob image was the incorrect size in the default skin (Mild Gray). Change: - Poise now always enables the maximum number of outputs when used within Studio One. If no one reports catastrophic crashes in the next couple days I'll update this to be the first stable release. Shannon |
