i'm not too familiar with samplitude so it might take a few minutes before i make sense of the project Smile

this is strange - samples are confirmed identical, but reaper says peak is -1.1 while samplitude says it's -1.0. so in terms of peak level meters, Samplitude appears to be a tad louder Smile when duplicated, both produce +5.0. So the levels can be considered identical inside the hosts (maybe there's a difference in peak level meter ballistics). will now try rendering...

i don't know what did you do wrong, but my two resulting waveforms null. how do you render in samplitude? i pressed Export... and chose WAV.

I take it null means no difference between the waveforms

yes, renders from both hosts cancel each other when put 180 degrees out of phase. the original render Pupok (bellybutton in Russian Smile) gave us are indeed different, but it is not the fault of the host, it is user error. I don't know which one though as i didn't modify the project in any way. To be sure, i created a new one, imported the sound on a track and rendered the result. Both files are identical in terms of sound information (they do differ in length a bit, but that's of no concern).

i've just re-rendered everything. opened original projects, pressed render (without dither), closed. opened reaper, loaded up two renders, aligned them (by default, it's out of sync) and inverted phase. they null completely.

I have Samplitude 10, impulse buy in the marketplace. I toyed around with the idea of upgrading to Pro X but I can't drag myself away from Cubase. Might sell it on.

Would it be accurate to say that Samplitude (10 in this case) is like Cubase and Wavelab rolled into one?

There are still people who think DAWs sound different? Laughing

However, if we're talking Harrison's Mixbus... It does sound different, and I think DAWs could start sounding different in the future when they start emulating consoles like Harrison's mixbus, but until that time... numbers are just numbers. Smile it's like saying 2+2=5! Laughing Do your maths, kids.

Samplitude is a great DAW if it fits your workflow. Everything is about the workflow when choosing the DAW to work with, not the "sound" of it... Laughing I still use EnergyXT *1* and I "shyly" use Reaper for making songs [I use it for mastering mostly], but EXT has the workflow, maan... I love it, and I know it doesn't sound better or worse than other DAWs. Laughing

We haven't had this type of threads for a while... eh? Smile I was wondering already... [maybe people have come to their senses finally?]

Also what's interesting is that people are always nulling DAWs, but have you ever nulled hardware devices? Hardware is what sounds *really* different. It can sound bad, too! You could get freaking weird DC offsets that can ruin your dynamics in the song and you're not going to be able to trace it, for instance, if you don't keep your eyes on the anal-easer. I get all kinds of weird things from using hardware. It's not that cumbersome, but really those DC offsets make me mad. However, the end result is worth it. Just get rid of the DC offset!

hardware not only sounds different but also you have to DAC-ADC so this also introduces differences due to clock jitter. so even if you put a sound through hardware that doesn't color or affect sound in any way, you're still going to get slightly different sound that won't completely null with the original audio.
