Very interesting, i liked the vocals and somehow you manage to get away with what is essentially turning the classic idea of how a 'drop' should sound, upside down, with that lush pad coming in there. The only thing i could add as criticism is that the kick sounds very soft throughout the whole track, i think it could use alot more presence in the second half. |

Cool....me too..I mean when I heard 'good' DubStep it perked my interest for sure. I think it's become a bit mainstream and I know it's a VERY contentious music genre-I'm not sure why? There's good and bad-which is subjective depending on ones taste? You know? Aaaaannnnnyyyyywwwwwaaaayyyyy While surfing around internet radio I stumbled onto (WARNING-some of it is very repetitive...but it's cool to get into the zone-long jams can really help inspire creativity) : https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ie=UTF- 8#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=subfm&oq=&gs_l=&pbx=1 &fp=d898465e17f33b65&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb &biw=1437&bih=735 http://www.bassdrive.com/v2/ http://www.filth.fm/listen.php http://dublab.com/category/listen/archive/ For those of us interested in Dubstep's origins give this a check: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubstep Thanks for posting mrblitz!!! polyslax wrote: Ola Chuck... glad to see you're on the mend, and yes, diet can be huge!
This track rocks like hell. Nice rhythmic moves, which I expect from you. I actually love a lot of rap, so I thought that was a pretty cool addition. Who's rapping, btw? Thanks for that and keep 'em coming! Hola Matt! Muchas gracias Matt. Translation: Hey Matt! Thank you for the warm welcome! You THE man! KVR has really fostered a warm community where musicians and computer music dudes can share ideas and not get pounced on while at the same time find needed constructive critiques. The wrap is something I found on soundfonts or one of those free samples sites. I used it as inspiration for the tack? I guess? You know? The track is called Prison Letter. I don't know. The idea of being in prison for a long time is just so unnerving-really creepy...somehow I feel for them even though they most likely belong there..I'm a strong believer in rehabilitation though...and totally against the death penalty...many of us make stupid mistakes in life...bla bla bla... Aaaaaannnnyyyywwwwaaaayyyy 'Tis goo to be back. Thank you so much Matt. bluedad wrote: any1particular wrote: 'Tis very thoughtful (can you tell I've been reading Frank McCourt?). lol, I did the same thing..love his books. bump Frank McCourt is just an AWSOME writer/story teller...and so original you know? Cool track Tim....damn!..I wish i could push a button and be hanging in a pub with you! A nice chat over a bit of the bubbly (well, that's what my English friends call it anyway-and as I understand it it's not very bubbly at all-go figure?) (YUM???!!!) Hey twilitez! I somehow you managed to get away with what was essentially turn the classic idea of how a 'drop' should sound, upside down, with a lush pad coming in beaduase-I don't know what the F@$CK I'm doing????? Serendipidty ro stupidity... : I REALLY like your suggestion-'the kick sounds very soft throughout the whole track' Mixing is still very much a mystery to me...the drums are from Ableton's groove templates and MIDI grooves recorded by KJ Sawka. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epxe4dV8H7Q&feature=player_em bedded Thank you for taking the time to post. |

Most certainly wouldn't call it dubstep, drum rhythms don't quite fit the dubstep genre. Also, it's not in a cut time tempo.
The "wobbles" most certainly are pretty step. I do like it, with a little more refinement to it. Something about the frequency spectrum feels a bit too cold. Not enough warmth in the mid - [mid]highs and [mid]lows. |

To my ears, it is sort of a fusion between dubstep, downtempo, and hiphop.. it is a really nice blend.
I think (only my opinion) your wobbles should be closer to the volume of the drums as the drums seem a bit overpowering vs the wobble bass.. but all in all this is really nicely done! I really like the rap... And although it's not exactly dub step it's a nice hybrid that takes it to a place of its own. I love the fact that you're just going for it. Nice track cool attitude... Yeah! |

I really like it, sounds close enough to Dubstep for me but then I'm no genre expert ( I got lost back in the late 70's when my mates were differentiating Heavy Metal, Hard Rock etc etc). Rapping tends to find its way onto plenty of Dubstep as far as I can see and I think it sits nicely in your track (I certainly wouldn't ditch it if it was the inspiration for the track). Keep up the good work! ---- Where the Hell is Murrumburrah????? Well may you ask, but there I dwell! |

Whatever it is, it's lovely. A lot smarter than most "dubstep" stuff I've heard so far. Good job Chuck! Whatever you do, I always hear your love for music shine through. Quality stuff.
I'm a big fan of drum and bass, bassdrive is a lovely station. Check out Bailey's shows on 1xtra for some great tunes and mixes too http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01k9hn7 |

There's good and bad-which is subjective depending on ones taste? You know? This is the only good dubstep I ever heard. Which has been maybe five times. one, the first I had any clue about it, 'wobble bass' is still next to all I have of it, was when you ill-advisedly ruined a nice track you had going with it. one was somebody with some metal band. Could be 'Skrillex with Korn' but I can't be sure. it was ok but seemed like a kind of scam at some level. then was some horrendous strictly-from-commercial thing that was really japanese bubblegum, but where, according to somebody here they had hit all the markers wif de dub and de step.
I'm obviously not very hip. this has the wobble bass, which I guarantee you annoys some people, but you use it with a latin kind of feel with the triplets, and the hip hop groove is really a killer diller, so the whole effect is amusing. I would think less so if you lost the rap. there is good rap but you don't hear it where I live, it's aggressively stupid like bad TV. this is good owing to the simple fact you're a good musician. |

Not enough warmth in the mid - [mid]highs and [mid]lows. I'm glad you like it and appreciate your critique. I wonder how I would remedy the warmth in these frequencies? I wonder if you could recommend youtube vids or a place to learn about these things-mixing/producing? I'm constantly on the prowel for knowledge regarding the art of mixing. And it is REALLY an art. A friend and I were talking the other day- what would we do if we won a million bucks-well-no fancy cars or oversized houses for me-I would find a mentor to teach me one on one the 'secrets' of getting a great mix. Annnnnyyyywwwwaaaayyyy. Thanks for posting. Oh. I gave your music a listen and it's very impressive indeed. I wonder if you could share some of your set up-DAW vsts, processing etc etc....or... I was going to PM you? I'm hungry for knowledge? VitaminD wrote: To my ears, it is sort of a fusion between dubstep, downtempo, and hiphop.. it is a really nice blend.

I got a good CHUCKLE (hehehe) out of your post jacqueslacouth. Believe you me I don't know what I'm doing and am certainly not 'hip'. But I do watch the many tutorials on youtube that doa good job of showing peeps how to 'wobble' (and I like to drink so I like to wobble around town too) Yeah. I can remember when rock & roll broke into a million subgnres and I lost track for sure-death metal-hard rock-and on and on. I bookmarked 'D & B With Bailey' and am very much looking forward to giving it a check-thanks!!!! Yeah. Drum & Bass is ripe for experimentation (as well as DubStep) or whatever. Right? These art forms are unique to computer music. You know what I mean? It would be pretty much impossible to pull off them with out the power of a computer to control/automate all these different parameters in time; or with rhythmic syncopation. Perhaps because I'm older I am really quite fascinated this stuff. I'm not trying to be 'hip'? I just find it all very interesting. I know I had bought a home brewing kit a million years ago an after I played this gig a bunch of Britts I'd met came over to my house early in the morning after the bar/club closed. I had this home made beer in my basement that was from england. It was like a big bag and one would just add water and wait 6 weeks or something like that; It had a spigot on it. Well. We sat in my basement and got shit faced and they loved it. And it was just barely carbonated-sort of flat.Andthey said this is like the beer we get at home Mate-fancy that aye? aaaaa fond memories..... |
