G-funk!
Ever since I heard it on Studio Electronics website. It makes sense because I love synth sounds and if you listen to their demos there's about 50 sounds a minute on those things. Where is the commercial G-funk though? Know any great artists etc? ---- Aiynzahev-sounds Resonance Sound Sound Designer - Soundsets for Massive, LuSH, DIVA, DUNE, Sylenth and others |

G-Funk disappeared pretty fast from the mainstream spotlight during the latter half of the 90's. Nowadays it mostly seems popular within US hispanic lowrider culture.
The music was heavily inspired by 80's electric funk and jazz, so you can find plenty of similar music from that period like Dayton, Trouble Funk, Nick Straker, Paul Hardcastle, etc. For modern equivalents there's Tryezz, Dam-Funk, Opolopo, etc. |

Something else you might wanna check out. In case you haven't already, is this music.
The Chick Corea Elektric Band. The first released record in 1986, is a mixture of jazz, funk, fusion, and other mixed styles. The key points being the excellent synth sounds, and layers of sounds used. It's got a lot of funky things going on too. It's one of those inspiring recordings that got me into using synths. I listened to a lot of other funk jazz fusion in the 80-90's that uses a lot of synth sounds as well. So I'd suggest going to the roots of the g-funk style and have a listen there. |
