Sorry... several questions...
Which synths do you consider to have good internal fx?
And bad?
Are you fussy even about delays?
Do you use in built FX in patches you make to sell?
Don't you think that using inbuilt fx can get you to the sound you want quicker? Don't you like fx automation to be alongside other synth parameters?
What about Massive where you can modulate fx parameters?

I think that Absynth internal effects for instance, are essential parts for the creation of it presets, IMO

1. Any synths internal FX can be made good use of only most of the time i don't use them, i consider the FX in Diva/Zebra/Virus TI/Massive to be nice indeed. Right now i have Diva on a bassline with UHBIKS piled on along with Vengeance stuff.. I just couldn't get the effect i wanted if i just used the synths internal FX.

2. Delays - I may use a few different ones on the same channel all automated etc.. Again the one in Diva or the Virus i will use alone cause these are tops.

3. Yes using the synths inbuilt FX can get me the sound quicker (when im building presets/factory sounds) but for my own productions i mainly switch them off unless they're top notch as i said.

4. I automate everything.. i can produce a track in a few days.. one nearly done now BUT... The automation can take a week or more.

5. Massive?? Yes i like it but i only bought it last week, i like what i hear so far.. I will use it for tracks for sure.

End of the day as i stated... the internal FX of synths and Factory presets are infact a promo tool for myself and the developer. I just prefer to switch off internal FX but i do use sounds from my own soundsets for productions..

I'll be doing more banks for other synths soon after i get a couple of more tracks out.
Was thinking of an Ambient/Chillout bank.. or iv'e always wanted to do a bank just full of pads..

PS

If i use a PAD sound from my soundsets i don't switch off the internal FX i just add external EQ etc.. I love pads and all the synths i have do great FX on them.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Rob

no, im not saying there are no sound designers who do interesting work, im saying that the majority of sounds included in synths are aimed at musicians who do more mainstream music.

So why not go through the presets anyway, if just to find the minority that are aimed at non-mainstream musicians? Is it such a waste of time?

forget it...

ive answered this in another thread

some synths come with hundreds or even thousands of presets....time....its quicker for me to dial up a sound myslef than try and trawl thru the banks to find one.

i have no problem with synths having presets, i think its a good idea for several reasons

i think ppl are taking vurts comments the wrong way, it was only a question/suggestion, he wasnt trying to start a crusade Shrug

I thought this thread was posed more of just a question, than a point of view.

I think that ironically just asking the question in the OP actually implies the perception that the presets are worth more than we now know they are.

(By 'worth' I mean in a monetary way, i.e. Able to affect the cost of the synth.)

Somehow the programmers put more value on what a preset adds to a synth than anyone else, as evidenced by this thread. Smile

Programmers are looking at it like a bottle deposit cash back, but the plastic isnt recyclable...

What the...hell...are you talking about? What post was I supposedly "taken down a peg" ? You're not making any sense...again. Prejudice? Where do you get that? Because I disagreed with some internet friend of yours? Damn man get..a..life. I never even corresponded with you in this thread yet you keep bringing my name up....you got something against me or is it just some weird man crush you have?

Why don't you just put the bottle down and back away from the keyboard..... Rolling Eyes

Wrong again mon frere. Or however the straight people spell it. It's hard being the straight guy playing the drunk. And some should know, it's harder playing the drunk guy playing the straight.

I admire your game Teksonik. I really do. If anyone ever f***ed about with you, you just send them to me. I shall send them to big Dave. He'll sort them out.

I love you Teksonik. You are my best friend.. And I love you... Don't take any shit mate. I look forward to seeing you next summer. Any bad boys. Send 'em to Dave.

I love you! Very Happy

Time to bump this up to defcon 2.

You know what I hate more than presets? Dongles. Also, airline peanuts. What's the deal with airline peanuts?

Definitely! It makes even more sense with samplers. A version of Kontakt without the library but much cheaper would be really nice Smile

I would have bought Kontakt much sooner if I hadn't had to shell out extra for the 20+ gigs of stuff I don't ever and NEVER will use...

How the hell did this thread stay on topic with so many blatant posts trying to derail it?

I even did a bit of (not so) subtle trolling myself. I know, it's not like me.

Even the mighty debs had no effect. Mind you, she didn't unleash her kittens. Er, I think I meant.. oh never mind - she'll fill us in.

And the rabid one still does not bite. Amazing Brian. How does he do it? He's in a class all by himself, he really is!

And again, nothing to do with presets, but maybe pushing buttons, this is for you Mr. Tektonik:

I just want to say:
"Whatever happened to Fay Wray". No, that wasn't it. Let me try again -
" I really love the skillful way
You beat the other girls
To the bride's bouquet ".

Dammit Teksonik, that wasn't it, either.

Ah, yes.

Teksonik, have mercy. I've been waiting for the bus all day.
No, seriously, have mercy!
I been waiting for the bus all day.
With my brown paper bag and my take-home pay.

I got in six super-strongs and you are more than welcome to two of them if you come around, good budgie! I would give you more, but detox is a bitch, as you probably don't know.
