You guys HAVE to help me decide if I should wait or not. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

haha, you're cracking me up!

a) there is no guarantee there will be a kontakt 6

b) have not idea what that would be.

For me as I've said in other threads, the gui and maneuverability are the two things I hate. Standalone it's fine, but as a plug in it's GARGANTUAN pita!

Works fine, but really tough to navigate.

Well it's got to be a far sight better than K3.5 in that regard.

I don't know. You made me nervous when you said there was no guarantee. There MUST be a K6 coming out because the upgrade deal on K5 is too stupid for there not to be one.

I bet K6 will have really cool drum sequencing and sample management/manipulation/design stuff on it and I bet it will have a better factory sound set and maybe a more sophisticated convolution engine/library. THAT'S WHAT I BET, YA HUH!!

Well having used NI products for a long while I would like to speculate...
I think Massive 2, Razor 2, FM9, and battery 4 (or a COMPLETELY customize-able drum synth, fingers crossed =D ) are all on the way. I think massive 2 will incorporate new wavetables, new filters, as well as a performer and LFO overhaul. I think razor 2 will allow for both filter types to be used on filter section 1 and 2. What I mean by this, for example, is the availability of using 2 vowel filters at once and not just on the filter 1 selection. Also an lfo/moduladtion control similar to massive's cross-fade lfo/performer/stepper curves would be nice. I think FM9 will and should include easily adjustable and routeable lfo sections for each and every carrier/modulator in the FM chain that are independently assignable and we will no longer be limited to two simple lfo's that are very limited. Battery 4/drum synth will be even more custimozeable than the battery 3 samples. Hopefully it will include a built in eq sidechain for each cell that can be routed to any and all other cells (so that resampling/compressing/layering takes place (for the most part) inside of battery. I would also like to see a built in bus, the newest update allows for signal routing and can easily be bused in any daw however it would be nice to have this handled internally. I am a lil drunk when writing this so if this has already been covered or is already doable in the versions currently available I am sorry... ***but please share your insight if this is already possible and I am being ignorant/uninformed.
THANKS and what do you guys think is up next?

I expect Reaktor 6, along with some synths to help demonstrate its new features. It seems just a bit soon for Kontakt 6, and I doubt they'd update both things at the same time because Reaktor 6 would drive Komplete 9 sales enough on its own - Meaning they could save Kontakt 6 for Komplete 10, or "X" as it might be called. It doesn't seem to take too much for them to bump a Kontakt version number though. So a new version is always possible - especially if Reaktor 6 isn't ready yet!

It's surprising to realize just how long they've went without a new (or major update) to a non-Reaktor synth. You almost feel as if they have to release a new synth or an update to Massive 2 as well. I don't expect them to go near FM8 though. I think it's actually more likely that they'd drop it kompletely.

The reason for that change of focus is simple enough - they make more money from sound libraries and hardware tie-ins, and a new product will make a lot more money if they can figure out a way to sell hardware along with it. So that's likely to guide the direction of whatever they do. I just hope they've got it together a lot better than with Kore, because it won't take many repeat performances of that sort of behaviour before people start steering well clear of NI hardware.

It's not surprising that people think they'll kill off Battery, when there's both Kontakt and Maschine, either. Despite assurances I'd be surprised if reaches the next version number, though not as surprised as I'd be at FM9 Smile

I expect this release will focus on content. The older sampler sets that were recently on sale will probably be bundled in v9. Same thing for the Reaktor ensembles.

I don't expect Kontakt or Guitar Rig to go to v6 yet. I am on the fence regarding Reaktor, though.

We might see one or two things that are completely new. Maybe a Reaktor ensemble, maybe a sample set, maybe a few GR5 hosted effects.

Think of it this way: If you buy now, it's $60 for something you know you'll enjoy (...right?). Later, if K9 comes with Kontakt 6 and it's just the greatest thing since garlic bread, then you can upgrade for $[discounted intro price]. How much do you think someone on KVR would be willing to pay for a Kontakt 5 upgrade after the K9 intro is up? $60 seems like a likely sale to me. Your chances of breaking even sound pretty good, IMO. If, by some off chance, there's no discount price, then you still have a nice version of Kontakt that you bought for %50 off and whose value will not deteriorate before the next mega-super-mustbuy sale.

Even if you take a slight loss on it, what's the harm? If you are really wanting the best Kontakt you can buy, then minimize the chance of you spending more money than you want.

I would buy now.

Hmmm, that's a good point. I didn't think about the discount intro price. Also, if the upgrade deal for K9 is good enough, I may go for that. I think I'm going to go for the Kontakt 5 deal because I really need to get out of the Kontakt 3.5 rut---too slow and too many libraries won't run on it. I imagine the Kontakt 6 factory library won't be all rehash of Kontakt 5 so I'll end up with some extra content even if I get them both. NI is throwing in Retro Machines too with the v. 5 update.

The best way to buy is during sales, which is right now. Sure if the new version comes out you'll find yourself wanting some of the new features, but none of them are worth paying DOUBLE. Just upgrade when the next worthwhile sale comes around. I got Komplete 7 + Kore2 at a ridiculously low price by waiting for sales and upgrade/crossgrade deals.

Komplete 7 to 8 is tempting at the current price, but not enough for me to pull the trigger. Kontakt 3.5 to 5 is probably worth it.

but say you like the new version better. you paid half price for the older one. So you have to wait all the way till the next sale and you end up paying the same in total anyhow. I think it is better to wait and see what the new features are first. Some places will be blwoing out the older version soon enough if you decide you want that for cheaper.
