I wouldn't use it for live work. But for field/remote recording, there is still nothing better atm. I suspect that many of the problems with the IU2 are actually inherent in the way the iPad processes audio through the 30 pin.

true. this could be the fault of the ipad as well as the apps. the randomness of how the IU2 and ipad function at times leaves this open for debate. hopefully with time will come stability.

I'm interested in how the new OS version (coming this fall) will affect things--for better or worse. It would be really great if these devices worked even better on iOS 6.

I personally would use the 3.5 mm jack out for live stuff. What you lose in fidelity, you more than make up in stability.

I bet the glitches and random undesirable noises people are referring to are not the fault of the iU2, rather they are caused by the hardware limitations of the iPad or iPhone. Running too many apps at once will do that. It also depends on which apps you try running concurrently. In the near future, the ram and processor limitations may be overcome, but they are unavoidable till then. Unless iOS 6 offers a solution with inter app audio or something.

So how is it with single or just a few Apps?! I'm hearing such mixed feedback on this thing it's impossible to make an informed decision about whether it's worth buying or not. People are talking about the validity of iOS devices as a music making platform. But here we are still waiting for a half decent interface!! I still think the IO Dock has come closest but it is far, far from perfect.

I have noticed that my iPad would glitch when using certain apps before I started using the iU2. Rebooting it fixed the problem most of the time. Other times I was just pushing the iPad too far. I wouldn't blame the interface for all the glitches and weirdness is all I'm saying. And it seems to me that the issues being encountered by users in this thread would most likely be caused by using memory intensive apps simultaneously. I am not saying the interface is perfect, but it is pretty good in my experience. I use it for bass and guitar processing and I would use it live with no concerns. But I would reboot before going on stage for sure. I've jammed with people for hours and it hasn't let me down. But I have noticed that using two or more midi apps at the same time with midi bridge running as well has been dicey from time to time. But that isn't the interfaces fault. The iPad has its limitations.

I use a dock extension cable and it is fine. But I had a couple of other cables that were noisy. Just make sure it is a quality cable and it should be ok.

I tried a few but the best one was included in the pack with a 5 in 1 dock connector I bought online, so it's a no name generic cable. I suppose it's a fluke cause the 5 in 1 thing worked ok too. I bought a more expensive cable expecting it to be better and it hisses real bad. Most likely you're gonna have to try a couple different ones till you get one you are satisfied with.
