the last thing i did was the part i thought i'd never solve, ever
the envelopes for it, i wrote a special tool - realtime two-channel sonogram, and used my midi clock generator to sync the x0xb0x with Venom ... finally i was able to see both synths realtime on the same screen with different colors, any difference becomes instantly visible now for the actual solution, i must thank guest (from the x0x forums) and a guy from #musicasp it turns out, the solution comes from a formula, which kunn (the guy who's ladder filter i'm using) already mentioned in a post at the open303 thread, somewhere around 2009 iirc no one gave his formula a good try (especially me) to be honest, i don't understand electronics and their equations, so i used a big fat randomizer to feed the equation's coefficients, and monitored the result - and, after a few hours of trying and re-adjusting the randomizer - BANG it started to behave like the real thing O_o i even managed to get the behaviour of the internal trimpot that adjusts the cutoff freq! i recorded a small video right after that, and you can tell by the camera shake - i was having quite some ass-shaking fun there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvML2gTZEVg i'm still waiting for the audio recordings about the metronome.. so currently i'm working on the x0xb0x control app ---- It doesn't matter how it sounds.. ..as long as it has BASS and it's LOUD! |

Wow. Can we download this last working version from the video? |

Sounds great. I've been watching this project for a while. Now you have me sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation.
I've read a lot of reviews of other 303-ish products, and heard a lot of demos comparing the sounds. While they weren't bad, they all fell short of capturing the TB-303 sound and nuances. It sounds like Venom might be the closest to the TB-303 yet. Very exciting. Thank you for pouring so much effort and love into this project. |

Very exciting indeed, seems to be quite accurate (i had a real 303). |

hi antto,
been a while since we got any info on your progress. and thread needs a bump to keep it from falling off the front page |

progress: the recordings i was waiting for (metronome) arrived, and i sorted the metronome behaviour
so TAP-WRITE mode works (and it's quite nice btw) Pattern Edit mode is finished (well i need to cleanup some debug text which shows on the LCD, but all the functions are there and working) i also gotta implement the .303 file format loading code (which needs a bit of nasty parsing) i fixed some bugs with the sync and internal messages (tempo wasn't displayed on the 7segment display correctly) now when in MidiSync - venom calculates the BPM (also performs some smoothing) and shows it on the 7seg display i am currently having some dillemas about the GUI, where to put the LCD exactly, and how will that affect the rest of the GUI, like where would the distortion be, how much space will it take.. blah blah next on the TODO list is: PatternPLAY mode, which HAS to be easy now, since it's like Edit mode but less features (no pattern editing, no manipulators, just playing chains of patterns WITH transpose) i'm thinking, for version 1.0 i will probably just include these two modes (Pattern Play and Pattern Edit, as on the 303) the rest of the modes i can do them in v1.01 or something, since they are not vital but more like bonus modes.. and this will give users some time to get the hang of how a TB-303 sequencer really works, and that it's not difficult to program patterns on it (like many articles claim) ---- It doesn't matter how it sounds.. ..as long as it has BASS and it's LOUD! |

i forgot to mention
c0nb0x - the x0xb0x control app i was working on meanwhile - i actually finished it, it's my first fully working standalone app (it works on windows and mac osx and of course, it has something to do with Venom the pattern file format which it uses for individual files is.. *drumroll* .NSP (of course, that's the new version of the .NSP format, so old beta1 and beta2 files are only loadable in Venom, but not in c0nb0x) here's a little video for the curious ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LuWMUQQ750 ---- It doesn't matter how it sounds.. ..as long as it has BASS and it's LOUD! |

conbox! er, i've lost track of what it does! (quick check over at adafruit...) btw, tap entry...you have that on your x0x? and, i think i asked before maybe: what mods have you done on your x0x? btw2: i've noticed the dinsync out on x0x only sends out in the actual dinsync mode, so you can't edt/write against another dinsync device, you have to do it 'blind', which isn't great. that is something the dinsync posse cwould welcome. |

Is this any improvement over the d16? ---- Intel Core2 Quad CPU + 4 GIG RAM |

mztk: c0nb0x is for connecting to the x0xb0x, flashing firmware, import/export patterns, and pattern editing (basically it's an alternative to the c0ntr0l app)
tap-write - no, i don't have it in n0nx0x, i implemented it in Venom after i "freezed" the n0nx0x firmware project mods: i have reso-boost (R97 replaced by 10K pot) C29 reversed (as in 303) and calibrated envelope minimum decay time to rv0's 303 (desoldered a resistor and soldered another one with specific value) i've also desoldered a bunch of other interesting components and soldered sockets (like Q8 Q9 Q10 and a few capacitors..) the poor thing survived all this abuse ;] dinsync: hm.. the mode "PATTERN (DINSYNC)" is Pattern Play using dinsync input thus in this mode the x0xb0x is slaved, and since the DinSync port is just one, it is interpreted as an input so the x0x syncs to dinsync and also converts it to midisync in the stock firmware the "PATTERN EDIT" mode is just using internal sync, for some reason they didn't implement slave mode sokkOS did, so maybe check it out i think i also did implement slave mode for pattern editing in n0nx0x, but i don't remember, and specifically the dinsync in n0nx0x could be non-working since i haven't had any way of testing it myself (i don't have any dinsync device) ---- It doesn't matter how it sounds.. ..as long as it has BASS and it's LOUD! |
