Who here uses it?

How do you use it? (personally, not "how do you use this damn thing?")

What do you use it on?

Just trying to get an idea of how people use this.

The reason im asking is because i own a rackmount of the 362NR (with noise reduction) and ive heard different stories about how it should be used and when.

Thanks!

Just run something through it, adjust to taste, and that's it.

oh i have. its not good for drums...at least not the ones i used last night.

ive read that its "supposed" to be used during final mix down of the entire song, just dont know how true that is.

ive always been a firm believer of "do what sounds right to you, no matter what", but occasionally, this means using something "wrong".

i just wanted to general census of what other people did with it.

Whatever you do don't use it during final mixdown. Use it a little bit here and there instead if you have to. (If I have to use it on anything someone has to pay me a lot Smile )

i never use it on the final song

i use it sparingly on a guitar or vocal now and then and it works well.

that said, the spl vitalizer is 100 times superior

oh and I don't use the CLAS anymore since I bought SPL Vitalizer Mk2 (which among other things does the same thing as an exciter).

The presets might give you a clue:

Drums Percussion
Guitar Bass
Piano Keyboard
Vocals
Mix Mastering

The Manual:

LO CONTOUR: This regulates the amount of phase corrected bass frequencies.
PROCESS: This regulates the amount of phase corrected treble frequencies.

Lazy Quote:

First of all, what does it do? and how does it work?
Sonic Maximizer is pretty much aligns sound waves so they won't have phase issues such as unwanted cut and boost. So it results in cleaner, brighter sound in higher frequencies and tight and thumpy lower frequencies.

That can't be true because BBE has a lot of patents about the sonic maximizer processing. (I haven't compared them though)

It sounds close enough to me Smile

They no longer have the page up offering the plugin, but it looks like they were bought out or something?

Definition of use? I can't see anything making sense, either you want the highs brighter or you don't.

I use midrange exciters more.

BBE D82 plug-in still on sale here for $9.99:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/bbe-d82-sonic-maxim izer-plug-in

shipped only / high shipping outside US

All you need and want is the code. D/L installer from Nomad Factory and authorize. I guess if an international buyer had a US friend, an arrangement could be worked out, etc.

I wrote this in the marketplace:

BBE arrived, installed and authorized. That was fast. I think maybe they have a distribution center not far from me. So far, it's cool, very nice interface even by Nomad standards. I guess the sound is what one should expect: somewhere between snake oil and EQ/dynamic EQ/phase correlation/blah, blah, blah. Oh, and it is an actual replicated CD (I know, I used to make them, literally), an empty sleeve with an S/N sticker (I guess maybe the CD was in the sleeve at one point), another sticker with the same number, and air, all in a fancy shrink-wrapped box. Deal complete.

Thanks for the heads up. Excellent price. Done.

This is one of those plug ins that you set to what you think works well, then turn it a bit down. It's also a lifesaver for poorly recorded material.

You're welcome. Yes, easy does it... or easier? I can see how the other plug-in out of the BBE suite that has frequency control for the high and low sections would be better (if it works like I think it does).

I noticed after the fact that you can upgrade from these singles to the bundle for $50 at the Nomad site, but I also found the whole suite online for a little less than $40.

I don't know that I need the third plug-in, though. So, just sticking with this cheap single will most likely be it for me. It kind of makes my little Nomad collection better now, too.
