hi guys
as from title.. i have recently purchased these 2 fantastic plug ins ( NI studio drummer and FXpansion BFD2), and i often use them on my tracks ( on cubase) Often I assign ad independent channel to kick and snare for further and more detailed processing ( eq, compressor, effects, and so on) , creating an independent mixer channel for them on cubase i was interested to know what are your usual choices in this context..that is to say... do you usually create independent channels for virtual drum plugins within your DAW? which are the drum parts you most often creat a separate channel for? ( kick, snare, toms, hihats...or everyone of them do you find easier to mix these drum parts whithin the original plugin 's mixer of outside of it, in your DAW? for example, in studio drummer there seems to be a good choice of compressor, tape saturator..and so on...solid sate logic i think any suggestions? thanx in advance ---- My strange songs are here: http://www.reverbnation.com/farguardian http://soundcloud.com/witch-1 |

Well, it's all a matter of opinion, of course, but we've come a long way since the earliest Drum plug-ins (where it was more-or-less essential to separate the individual kit pieces, if you wanted to do anything serious with them But, of course, if, for example, you want to gate the bass instrument from the kick drum, then you have no choice but to separate the kick drum And, you're probably going to want your favorite reverb on the snare, aren't you? ---- I did get a life,once...but it was faulty, so I sent it back. |

I normally have channels for kick, snare, HH, cymbals, toms and percussion. I like to process them individually with EQ etc. and then mix to a drum bus with some compression to bind them. |

I always used to mix each of EZ Drummer's channels to an individual track, but I too have recently started experimenting with NI Studio Drummer. I find that the quality of the audio processing tools within Studio Drummer are good enough that I didn't have to use multi-out configuration and external processing. NI's "Solid Series" effects are actually very good. I really like what NI Transient Master can do.
Studio Drummer's built-in convolution reverb choices also suited me just fine. Personally, I'm using the 70s drum room IR which suits the particular song that I'm working on presently, just fine. ---- Thanks & God Bless, Bro.
