Hello KVR Krew:

I've heard of this new compressor plugin now since a few months. I've not yet tried it, because I'm such a fan of both Density MKII & Klanghelm DC8C. At any rate, I am always interested in new, high quality freeware offerings or finding out about a HQ affordable plugin (eg. TB Barricade). I'm one of those who takes delight in using an affordable, small dev plugin that can approach the quality of, or rival, high-priced commercial products.

I consider ToneBoosters, Variety of Sound, GSI, TAL, & Klanghelm to be perfect examples of this.

Ok - what's the consensus, here at KVR, concerning Tokyo Dawn's Feedback Compressor?

Thanks & God Bless,

Good question! I'd love to hear more opinions too Smile

Brother Charles, I really recommend you to simply try it out with your specific work-flow and material. It's still a beta, but the final release will appear soon (more processors too).

I doubt anyone has much criticism. It does what it does very well. There was a thread over here about it and most people comments were very positive.

One of the most transparent compressors I've tried for smooth compression on the master bus. I don't use it very aggressively, but for my purposes it shaves off a couple dB almost invisibly. The delta feature is a stroke of genius and would be a standard feature in all comps if I had my say. It's so much easier to dial in appropriate settings when you can hear precisely how much gain riding is going on. The dynamic dual release settings are also unique (as far as I know), though I don't have the savvy to really appreciate any advantages they offer. The GUI, including the transfer curve, is very slick as well. It really is hard for me to find fault with it with respect to the purpose for which it was intended.

you can use very fast attack settings combined with release, and the dynamics are very smooth and adaptive, you can watch as the meter flows up and down along the waveform effortlessly. Thats the trouble with compressors without program dependancy, when you use really fast attack and release times they usually encounter a lot of wave distortion as the time is too fast for them to keep up with, but this is where the TDR compressor really shines. For kickdrums attack 0.1-0.4 and release of a few milliseconds with some low freq drive and it really adds depth and smooths out the frequencies that would otherwise have been a flabby, dull and lifeless kickdrum. Also gonna try to see if its as snappy as I want it to be on snare drums.

It's great, even at twice the price! HiHi

Sweet and transparent. And is exceptional off the bus too. Really like what it can do for vocals when transparency and sweetness count.

You need people's opinions, and there are quite a lot of them there.

Also, there's a new version of Density - MKIII, you may have missed that.

Both toys come highly recommended.
