Hi folks,
How are you all? Have a question about Shortcircuit 2... I usually use Battery 3, but I really enjoy the piano key layout mode which SC2 offers. It makes sample mapping a breeze... I have looked for the question over many forums (including KVRaudio), but I cannot find the answer... Please help. I use Cubase, and with that being said, one thing I cannot stand/figure out is how SC2 is is the sampler group volume routing. In Battery 3, I click the VST Instruments (F11) window and add about 16 different outputs. I then go to the cell of the sample in Battery 3, and under the volume fader for that cell I can route the signal to whatever output I want. This allows me to control the volume for that particular cell(s) without controlling the entire Battery 3 volume. But I cannot do this with Shortcircuit 2. I can get as far as pressing F11, turning on the outputs I need (SC2 has 16), but then I'm stuck. As a side note, I think it may have something to do with the layering feature in SC2? This does not work either though as when I put say the kicks on layer 1, and the claps on layer 2, they will all play the same time when I click the SC2 window off and being to write the music. It is very annoying. Any insight please? Thanks, Waldoctg |

I'm not on my music computer at the moment - but if i recall right you can route the output of every sample individually to one of the outputs in SC2. Every sample/layer has an output option directly on the right side of the main window...
highlight / click on your sample or layer of samples and go to Output and choose another channel under "Partbus" - very simple! |

Your explanation is very confusing but if it's about how to route things to different outputs in Shortcircuit2, it's done in zones by first selecting the zone(s), then opening the drop-down window in the output section. Part bus outputs you set in the drop-down window in the output section under the part tab. |

Awesome. Thanks so much. I could not figure that out, lol.
So now, if I were to use the layers, all I would do is just select another layer (say, layer 2), add some samples on it, and make sure that the samples on layer 2 are going to a different output than layer 1, right? Thanks! Waldoctg |

Layers have letters (A,B,C etc), parts have numbers, but you can set outputs to each yes.
But if this is just to manage volumes as you say in the opening post, why not just use the volume slider in Shortcircuit? Why put it on a channel in the DAW to do that? |

Are you saying yo ucan set outputs to entire layers/parts? I just did it to the individual samples... If so, would you enlighten me?
I need this so I can side chain (duck) the kick to the white noise I amm working with. As an electronic music artist, it is kind of essential... Also it allows me to add other effects to the samples if needs be (although I can still use SC, but I like the versatility). |

Like I said earlier, hit the part tab (upper right), then in the output section use the drop-down to set the output for the part.
As for setting one output to an entire layer within a part, click the 'sel layers' button top left and then use the output drop-down in the zones tab. (this operation basically just selects all layers and sets output for each. But I must say nice to see someone else using Shortcircuit2 and even prefering it over other things for percussion. So far I've passed on Geist, Poise and recently Mdrummer for various reasons as Shortcircuit2 does the job perfect and is light and hassle-free. The searchable database browser with auto-preview is just the most useful thing. |

Thanks a lot!
And yes, I agree. There are still a couple things I wish SC2 had, but I LOVE he keyboard mapping functionality. It's really nice. Battery 3 is still a favorite of mine, but I wish you could view Battery 3 with a keyboard layout. That'd be legit. |
