Thinking about going 64.... how is the new ableton live 64 beta working for everyone?

also.. this is going to sound really dumb..

windows 7 64.. how much memory do you recommend? I only have 4gb in at the moment.. should I not even consider going 64 before buying more memory? it will be a few weeks or so.. and I have projects to work on.. if 4 will be enough for now.. I may just install everything today.. and get started...

Its Beta64 and you can run the 32 live side by side with it . No Max4Live 64bit or included bit bridge yet is the only gripes I hear. J bridge anyone ? I dont know why people complain about bit bridging ?

I don't even care until they get MFL working.

I had troubles on Windows7 64 installing updates or betas of Live8 . I had to go to there forums and found out I had to install some kind of windows stuff. Here it is side by side error and how to fix it . The Ableton forum is entertaining too . https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=182668

Live 64bit with 4GB RAM will be no diferent to Live 32bit with 4GB RAM.
If your mixes fit into the 3.2GB of Lives memory space then Live 64bit will make no diference.

Live 32bit is limited to 3.2GB of RAM
Live 64bit on Win 7 Home 64bit you can install 16GB of RAM and I find Live mixes have no limits.

If your mixes are 6GB they will use 6GB of ram If your mixes are 1GB they will use 1GB of RAM no matter how much RAM you put in.

For people wanting to cram in lots of sampled instruments Live 64bit and lots of RAM gives them freedom to do whatever they want.

Live 64bit beta has been perfectly stable on Win 7 64bit with my mixes being as large as 8GB
32bit plugins though require Jbridge to work.

Windows 7 Home 64bit can use upto 16GB RAM
Windows 7 pro 64bit can use upto 256 GB RAM

Your motherboard will have a limit to how much RAM it can take.
Bare in mind more tracks in your mixes will need more CPU.

So there are 2 back to back posts of 2 people who need a 64bit host and praise the 64bit beta . Both use RAM intensive plugins that use big sample libraries . Thumbs Up!

eta2: +1 on the "only worth it with the extra ram" (i went 64 bit by accident, the replacement motherboard supports 8G)

i would have paid to have ableton live in a 64-bit format... actually... i do not need anymore features from ableton live... but will pay for update/upgrade to Live 9... just to support the company!!!

job well done ableton!!!

I'm on a mac. I couldn't get jbridge to work. Just sent a report to Ableton, see if they can fathom it. So I'm on 32 bit. The one thing I can't see getting updated and I wouldn't like to go without id the Korg legacy series, so I need this bridge working. Plus there's all the handy free stuff. I doubt Triple Cheese etc will be updated either. I'm trying to get a list together of what stage plugins are up to regarding being updated. It's on the Ableton forum but I could post it on here for people to add to. I've mailed some of the plugin companies, but only a few.

personally... i do not think ableton should bother with 32-bit plugins... ableton were one of the last companies to go 64-bit... 64-bit is the future (at least for the near future)... why worry about "old" technology? i.e. 32-bit vst/i(s)... hopefully... ableton is going to have both 32-bit and 64-bit versions... but why create the headache of making ableton 64 compatible with 32-bit vst/i(s)?

if i were ableton... i would not look back!!!

all indications point to... ableton "not" looking back!!!

p.s. not trying to be rude... just my opinion!!!

double p.s. all my plugin are 64-bit...

The only JBridge issues I have ever had (not with Ableton 64) have been solved by upgrading to the latest version of JBridge. Are you running the latest version, and what issues are you having? I am running JBridge on Windows with Live 64 with no issues. I'll try it on my Mac tonight and see if it works there.

Yes I think it was the latest. The problem was when I tried to open my current set it flashed a message about not finding the jbridge file path, and then Live crashed.
