I think reason isn't really a DAW quite yet, but more of a electronic musicians toolbox. It has everything you need to make a killer track, and all the stuff that is in reason is really well thought out and works good with SUPER LOW CPU usage meaning you can get 60+ realtime tracks full of synthesizers, samplers etc. It is getting closer to full blown DAW status though, but I kind of hope it doesnt become a DAW. We already have Cubase, Logic, Live etc which can all rewire very nicely with reason.
That image was taken from 2009 when the Prodigy was playing live at Rock AM Ring in germany. You can clearly see NNXT being run on the laptop. Sure Liam isn't relying on Reason completely, but it is definitely a part of his setup, as he Rewires into Live. He is also using a Access Virus TI Polar keyboard and a Moog Voyager. I forgot to add how I pretty much believe that Reason & Ableton Live are all any electronica musician needs if they're on a budget to make killer music.
No maybe reason doesn't have EVERYTHING but for what it does have, it does well. IF I was broke, and only had enough money to save up and buy 2 music programs for making music it would be Ableton Live Propellerheads Reason Those two cover 100% of any electronic musicians needs that are broke. Having Ableton live also allows you to access all the amazing free plugins out there too. I would like to challenge all those that mock reason and ableton to throw away all of their fancy plugins and just make something professional with just Live & Reason. It is possible and to say it isnt, proves ignorance on your part. |

Agreed - I've been using that combo for years, and I wouldn't say I am even an "electronic musician" - although I do make some downtempo stuff for fun I am essentially a classical pianist.
In fact with Ableton + Reason 5, I have practically no need for plugins at all, bar a couple of specialist things (Pianoteq 4 and orchestral samples) that neither programme excels at. Pretty much everything in this set is done using JUST Ableton and Reason, and several of them are JUST Reason alone: http://soundcloud.com/keyquest-music/sets/myshowcase Sure I could replace the Reason instruments with VSTs, which would probably be easier in some respects than rewiring Reason, but more expensive for sure, and potentially less stable... always good to stick with a setup that you know works, and that you know HOW to work! |

Define budget... Not saying they aren't great (each on their own and in a combo), but $898 isn't exactly for people on a low budget. |

I was kinda thinking that too, hehe.
By the way, having posted links to my Reason tracks, very happy to hear some music by the rest of you too. Always good to hear what people are producing with Reason, and this seems the perfect thread for it |

yeah, why not... all done in Reason 5 @ the time, all 100% my compositions and 100% Reason sounds and Instruments few my own patches... it is possible maybe just the kick drum and a snare to be wav samples. Some of my earlier work... not that I am much better now LOL, but using 6 / 6.5 now I use a lot more wav or samples as well, loops etc.
All in Reason 5 http://soundcloud.com/georgeangelov/mystic-sensations-2011-2 This one has a bit of piano too in the middle / breakdown etc... : http://soundcloud.com/georgeangelov/weekend-sunrise http://soundcloud.com/georgeangelov/weekend-sunset-edit-1 ---- http://soundcloud.com/georgeangelov/julian-five-trance-updated http://soundcloud.com/georgeangelov/mystic-sensations-2011-2 done in Reason 6 and 5 Last edited by angelremington on Fri Aug 03, 2012 12:56 am; edited 1 time in total |

Thanks skipkent Also do you have any music done in Reason to share? Also, I'm really surprised that there don't seem to be more "Reason fanboys" with music to share There's no better way to prove what a great programme Reason is than to showcase what it is capable of in your own music... the rest is really just words |

Good initiative though. Keep the music coming. Meanwhile I have bought myself the virtual vocaloid singer "Leon" and as far as I get it the vocaloid program can both be rewired and used as a VST but I haven't tested it yet. But it shall be cool to add a "singer" to Reason and spice the possibilities of the vocoder and voice synth up. Cheers |
