What would be more interesting is which online mastering services are worth the money and which are not. There are some inexpensive offers, but do they master with high quality?

As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't offer mastering or participate at a mastering competition - simply because I'm not a trained mastering engineer. Of course, I can do some kind of pre-mastering, but the REAL mastering should be committed by a (trained!) mastering engineer.

Exactly, well, this is sort of just for fun. The real use is probably just to get our demo's better, the ones we haven't committed to a mastering engineer yet.

But if we are able to choose different ME's (depending on the donations) then we can start to shop around and find out what different ME's do.

There will always be the matter of taste involved.

It might turn out to be of little use in the end, but I don't think this will be a complete waste of time.

I was waiting for something like this.

I ever heard here on KVR that there's top notch free tools, so everyone could deliver a quality mixdown and/or mastered track. That would be a great opportunity to see what KVR gurus can make with such tools.

So, my vote is for free plugins only.

I'm the guy who made the thread about mastering help for an album (EP). I would love it if people would give their best shots at mastering it. Although this is a 6 track album, not a single-trrack. Like I wrote in my post, I need to have all 6 tracks have an even, relatively constant volume. And I'd also like a bit loudness (not too extreme...) and the sound I'd be looking for is Danger Mouse-ish. That is, a bit dirty. More soul than pop, if you understand me I mean. It's a hip-hop EP btw.

But I don't know if this has any interest at all?

So has anyone actually posted or mastered any tracks? I'm happy to do either.

Have a good day, Rob Smile

I'm going to post a crappy tune as example this evening, we could learn too much about it.

I can donate an unmastered version of this if you like. The reason being is that it has a moody low key start, heavy drums later on, real and synthesized parts and different sections for different mastering challenges.

Well, we could start with this one.
Nice track. Thanks.

Now we would have 2 weeks or a bit more to master this one, and to share what we did, what mastering tools used and how.

Good mastering days! Smile

Okay, we will go with Bluffmunkeys track, that you Geoff!

I will start the thread tomorrow.

I need someone to help with the hosting, Ideas anything. We need somewhere to upload our files or some way to keep track of it so we can reconvene on the 20th and listen to our work.

Also donations will be opened up tomorrow, I'd like to be able to present a mastered track from a mastering house by the 20th.

PM me and I will give you my paypal I guess, I don't know any better way to do it. Then make the declaration on the thread. But no one pay until we have the head count, until we know how many people are in on it. We may only need $3 each or something depending on how many people are in.

We can start small, $30-40 mastering. Even if just 8 people are on this $5 each would be more than enough.
