sounds like basic minimal techno minor chord (synth playing root 3 semi tones 7 semitones and playing with the envelope on low pass filter) run through a lot of fx like delay reverb and some sort of noisy glitch layer of sound. If you heard it in isolation I bet you'd be surprised how simple it is. It's a case of the whole sounding more than the sum of it's parts... simple techniques... good execution. |

First Item at 2.10 is a 'Clave' like an 808 'Clave' erghh I think filtered and pitched up a bit.
I think with a lot of sounds, the glitch bits are pre made, using crackles recorded either from a source like electrical gear, or 12" Vinyl or a plugin like 'Izotopes' Vinyl plugin, which is free. http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/ The sample is recorded and then cut up into a drum rack. Try a crackle emulation plugin and see what reults you can get. With Alchemy, I don't think it's particularly suited to this kind of thing, as it's multisampled patches are SFZ. I make racks in Ableton for all sorts of things like this, Glitch, Rizers, Drops, Found Sounds, Impacts, Drones.. |

While not the same as a dedicated plugin, it's possible to simulate vinyl like sounds by importing a suitable sample using Granular mode and setting the Window to "Needle". This changes the shape of the grains, which become static like. WIth the right sample + stretch value or position modulation this can sound quite like vinyl or other "low-fi" background noise. It goes without saying that there are loads of free x0x sample libraries available, this is a good place to start: http://samples.kb6.de/downloads.php In other news, those of us whole love minimal techno might be pleasantly surprised in a few months time ... ssssh Peace, Andy. |

I agree, it's often just other sounds interacting gently that yields certain effects. Played in isolation, the chords would sound quite tame, smooth and warm, but tame. |
